what type of holster are you looking to buy? if you haven't already made a purchase, check out the holsters that this guy makes:

$50 (including shipping) for a crossbreed-style holster just can't be beat. he offers several customized options for no extra charge, and i can attest to the quality of his work. i got mine in my mailbox within a week of placing the order and absolutely love it so far.

Re: January 2011 Applications

Ramfan wrote:The following I posted in December's Waiting Room. I mailed it in December and they received it after the new year holiday weekend so I thought I'd post it here as well.

It took unusually long for me. I checked last night and the fingerprints and background were still pending. I counted the days from when they received it and yesterday and determined they had my packet for 60 days exactly.

Checked it this morning and it finally says manufacture pending. I'm active duty and have been resided in 2 other states....not to mention the trouble I was in when I was a kid (over 20 years ago). Just as in when I applied for a clearance, I disclosed everything including police records with my packet.

Hopefully, I won't have to wait as long as other to finally get it in my hands.
:woohoo
congrats, judging by my experience and a few others more recently, the mailing process isn't taking as long as before. both bcdudley and myself had our status change to "mailed" over the weekend and received our plastic yesterday. for me it was exactly a week from the time i saw "manufacture pending" to plastic-in-hand. hopefully you'll get yours sometime next week.

exactly 2 months mailbox to mailbox... mailed my packet on january 3rd, received my CHL march 3rd
Congrats! I like how you put "mailed" in quotes, by the way.
yeah, judging by how long it's taken for most others to get theirs after their status said mailed i wasn't expecting anything until next week sometime so i was a bit surprised to see it in the mailbox today. heck it might have even been here yesterday, i hadn't checked the mail since tuesday.

Grrrrr
it takes a while for your online status to be updated. they received my packet on Jan 6th but i didn't see a change in status until about the 11th IIRC.

FINALLY, my online status hasn't reflected it yet, but this morning i received an email from the DPS notifying me that my background check is complete and i should be receiving my license within 2 weeks!

12/31/10 - took class
1/1/11 - online application
1/3/11 - mailed paperwork
1/6/11 - DPS received
1/10/11 - 1st status available online
2/23/11 - application approved

so even with a juvenile class B misdemeanor listed on my app, mine was processed well within the 60 day time frame from when they received my paperwork. now for the worst part of the wait :totap:
Congrats! :cheers2: You beat me. I called yesterday, my background check is still with a they are still reviewing my arrest. I am not worried about not getting it but just hating the wait. :banghead:
yeah what i found interesting is that the notification i got was from someone with the title "Investigator II, Eligibility Evaluation Unit" so i'm thinking that simpler applications (i.e. no arrests) are handled in a quicker fashion, and those with more to them are bumped up to someone who digs a bit deeper on the background check. i never did have to provide any sort of court documentation, probably because it was a juvenile arrest 11 years ago. good luck with the wait, i know it's brutal and i'm not quite done yet. now i just have to keep from checking my mailbox more than once a day for the next couple weeks :banghead:

Re: January 2011 Applications

still waiting on background check :totap:

applied on 1/1/11, mailed packet on 1/3/11, received by DPS either 1/6 or 1/7. so i'm right around 6 weeks, hopefully it won't be much longer. i sent an email this morning just to see if there were any holdups that i needed to be aware of, they said if they needed anything i'd get a letter in the mail but i haven't received anything yet. i'm getting anxious now, i'm tired of carrying around a rubber band gun. i fought off a pack of ninjas the other night with it. i think ninjas may be allergic to rubber, as soon as they saw the rubber bands come out they were out of there before i knew they were gone... oddly enough my socks were missing when i got home though, not sure how that happened :???: , but if i were cornered by a street gang i'd be outgunned big time.

that would require critical thinking... and many (not all) government agencies have a severe lack of critical thinkers. uh oh, i just spoke poorly of our government, i guess they'll come kicking down my door any minute to haul me off to the gulag. :leaving

Re: January 2011 Applications

i haven't posted in this thread in a while, here's my current status:

12/31/10 - took class, online application completed
1/3/11 - mailed materials to DPS
1/6/11 - received by DPS
today - everything green except background check... nothing's changed in the past 3 weeks since the fingerprint status went green.

i did have several previous addresses (moved a lot in college) and one prior juvenile arrest (class B misdemeanor in january 2000), but i didn't expect it to take this long to at least hear SOMETHING from the DPS. they were responding to emails at first and told me that if they needed court records they'd mail me a letter, but so far nothing's come in the mail and they won't respond to email or phone inquiries with anything other than "we're still running your background check". :totap:

i have found that as more time has passed, i haven't been nearly as anxious about how quickly i'll get my CHL as i was in the first couple weeks after taking the course. the past month has been pretty busy at work and i got a promotion yesterday, so i've at least had a few things to distract my attention away from waiting for the DPS.
