So, my question for those of you who frequently run into the thugs on the street (ie - you were/are cops, narcs, etc.) - are most of the handguns that you see/run into carried in the waistband (ie - Mexican carry)? Or are the thugs using a holster? Just curious. Had a conversation with a buddy that is an ex narc, said he had to carry "Mexican style" when he was undercover, otherwise using a holster would be a dead give away that he was under cover, this was from awhile back (he did NOT like carrying that way). Wondered if things have changed.

In my experience, the rule of thumb is that someone with a gun in a holster is 90% likely to be a good guy, and someone with a gun carried in the waistband is 90% likely to be a bad guy.

Nothing is 100%, but this provided a useful starting point for dealing with folks when their carry method was known.

Good for the detective. I wonder what the public statement would have been had the incident happened in New York or Chicago?
