Re: Scare last night

Thought I would update yall....solution found! I was lamenting a few days ago how womens clothes did not always have pockets and so I kept leaving my phone here and there and everywhere, my husband kept calling me and I would have to run back upstairs to get the phone...miss his call...call him back, bring the phone downstairs, then two hours later he would call again and I would be upstairs and the process would repeat. It was really annoying me, then I remembered an old belt pack, that had a phone pocket on it. It is black leather and just hanging in the closet. When I went to go get it a stroke of genius hit me. The hidden pocket in the back is just big enough for my EDC 9mm carry in a pocket holster. There is enough room in there for my pocket knife, pen, tweezers, and even my wallet (a separate pocket for this than the gun). So now I can wear pj's if I like....the gun is still with me in the belt pack.

Re: Scare last night

Thanks yall....especially on the info on the chains. I did not know they were so useless. When I was a kid in San Antonio that believe it or not was the only lock we had on our door! Will talk with husband about getting a peep hole installed. Dangerous not to do so.

I do carry openly around the house and outside of it quite often (legal here in VA). So the kids are used to seeing mommy with a gun. And I usually stay dressed until it is time for bed. Just had gotten into the habit of on Mon and Tues dressing down for a little bit...Obviously no more.

I usually would not open the door, except, that I thought it was my husband. Thank God my lack of clarity at the moment was not lethal.

Upon reflection my DH and I think it was our annoying neighbor. Our cat likes to sit on the hump on the property line between his and our house. This annoys him, but there are no laws against cats or dogs being off leash in our section of chesterfield and there are hundreds of feral cats in the neighborhood so if he thinks a cat has never walked on his lawn he has another thing coming. He has kicked our cat, and hit him with an umbrella. And our cat is so nice that he just lets himself be picked up and carried about so I think he picked the cat up, put him on our porch, rang the doorbell and took off. Scared the daylights out of me though. They are moving in two weeks. I shall not cry.

Thank you guys again for all your help

edited to add: we just got the fence. Now we have to save up for the dog

Scare last night

Never let your guard down.

Last night around 9:30 pm we had a nasty scare. Let me set the stage. My husband is in praise band and civil air patrol so on Monday and Tuesday nights he does not get home until 9:30. I think it is important for the kids to see their dad if at all possible most nights. So on those nights we usually get into our pj's and sit on the couch and watch a nature show. I usually put the gun in the safe as my pjs are not conducive to carry and Chris is going to be home in a few minutes anyway.

So it was no surprise that the doorbell rang at 9:15 last night. My eldest ran to the door and asked "who is it.". I came over and heard a muffled sound and thought it sounded like shifting boxes (Chris often comes home from cap with various items). We don't have a peep hole so I opened the door....no one but my cat was there. Chris car was not home yet. Someone had rang and run, or so I hope. Now for the really bad part, my phone had been MIA for a few days....kids had played with it and the battery was dead so I could not simply call it. Here I was with a possibly dangerous situation, four little kids, gun upstairs, and no phone. I relocked the door, ran and armed myself, then I used my iPad to call my husband over Skype and he indeed was 5 minutes out. Needless to say we tore the bedroom apart last night and found the phone. We are considering getting an additional chain on the door that would allow me to open the door slightly without opening it all the way.

Now for the gun part. How do y'all handle this sort of thing. Do you carry in your pj's? Do you have a gun safe beside the door?
