They didn't say it was against the law to carry. They said it was against rodeo policy to carry. They never acknowledged whether they understood the signs were invalid. In the past, they've acknowledged the signs were unenforceable and let me in. These two were having none of it. I wasn't prepared to be the test case for unenforceable 30.06 signs on public property or for the volunteer emergency services DTP so I didn't attempt to go past them.

Like I said, the property is owned or leased by a governmental entity, so real peace officers don't enforce 30.06 on the property, but thugs do.
This is the first year since 06/07 signs went up that I wasn't able to carry. Neither HPD officer cared that it was government property or that I was volunteer emergency services even after showing LTC and emergency services ID. Had to do the walk of shame back to my hotel to secure my pistol.

I asked them when I came back through if they had received any training from HPD or TCOLE about changes to the LTC laws after the last legislative session, but the response was "I'm not going to argue with you. Enter if you wish but only LE can carry firearms per Rodeo direction". Really ticks me off when LE is working off duty and being paid to enforce local policy that trumps state law.

I wrote an email to the president of the rodeo asking why they were keeping emergency services workers other than LE from carrying. As expected, I didn't receive a response.
