I'm in my 40s, but still feel reasonably stylish wearing a nice linen/silk/etc short sleeved, unbuttoned shirt over a snug black t-shirt. It's a far, far more stylish & unobtrusive cover garment than a photographer's vest!

That would let you wear IWB without offending your wife's sensibilities...

I'm about your size - 5'11", 180 #, and don't get hung up about blousing my shirt ;-)

Ok, I can tuck my shirt in, and I can even blouse out m shirt enough so that there is no print of a gun..... but it looks ugly, unorganized.. strange. My shoulders are broader than my waist, and when I tuck a dress shirt into slacks without a gun, everything looks nice and slim and neat. I When I blouse the shirt out around the gun, things look strange and I look disproportional. Also, the gun+holster make slacks fall in a strange way, at least in my experimentation. I don't think the holsters are my problem.. I think it has more to do with the vanity factor than anything else. This is one of those occasions I just use an ankle holster.
Yeah, that is pretty much it. And my wife complains about me looking "frumpy" when I tuck a shirt around a gun. Ankle or pocket.. Sad day.

I do. I wear un-buttoned short sleeves with t-shirts frequently. I'm mid-late 20's, and most occasions I can get away with slacks and a long sleeved dress shirt un-tucked. I do this for Mass and the like. It's not very often that I am forced to tuck in my shirt and change carry style, but for example, yesterday I went to a wedding and wore slacks/tucked in shirt. I could have worn a jacket and gone OWB or the like.. but it was just too hot.

I don't mind pocket and ankle carry though...
