Re: Property Defense in West TX Question

It varies by the county..

My original in Centre County was $26.. was paper with NO PHOTO..

The one I got from Bucks County has a photo and was $46.. and has the contact phone number on the front..

Re: Property Defense in West TX Question

thank you..

& again.. I won't be there for 3 years..

My PA permit expires in 2012 and will be renewed here (for another 5 years)..

Once I get to TX (in 2013-2014) and settled in, I will then get my TX DL and TX CHL.

More than likely I will get a TX mailbox in Van Horn (all I need is my deed. tax bill, and another ID)..

Re: Property Defense in West TX Question

The problem is I still live in PA folks.. but I want something there for when I visit for the next 3 years till I move out permanently.. I don't get more then 3 days off from work at a clip (I am still a temp 3 years into a bull job).. no work=no pay..

I cannot tow a trailer from PA to TX, and back, in (total) 3 days

I cannot afford to STORE my trailer at a U Store it either for $60/month either.. 3rd problem is I currently own a CAR and not a truck so towing something say 30ft long CAN'T HAPPEN..

Hence the 12 x 16 building..

accroding to my surveyor he got stopped last year on the way out after being there just 45 mins..

another couple got stopped 3 x in just over an hour on that road going down to my old 10 acres..

but yes, calling the BP in that area (I have there number already) is what I plan on doing..

I don't plan on leaving anything else there.. just the camera up on the eves on the inside angled DOWN toward the door.. and a solar panel bolted to the roof with a small 27a/h battery also mounted up there in the ceiling.

I am going to TRY and protect whats mine.. :reddevil this has been an 11 year project with alot of hardships and such..

Re: Property Defense in West TX Question

Decided to do a fence with LOTS of signs (in both spanish/english) and install some fake cameras and a free standing and NOISY perimeter alarm..

also going to maybe install a camara (inside) which transmits pics with cellular MMS pictures when the camera senses movement or I send a message to the camera from my cell.. cost is $120-180 for one unit.. which is 5v DC with VERY low draw.. should be able to run right off the Solar panel.. without having to leave a big 12v battery sitting there..

AT&T services the area and I just grabbed an AT&T go-phone for this project (with a TX number assigned) in the coming months.. just got to put the ATT SIM card into the camera and program my other cell to receive pics and my email address also.. :coolgleamA:

I will buy the unit and test when I get closer to having the $4400 I need in the bank..

I do know that I can carry open or concealed on my property (I used to do that when I lived in NJ) :cheers2:

I was merely pointing out I had some form of CCP/CHL..

Also an NRA Basic Pistol Instructor since 2003 and PA Act 235 (Armed Guard Cert)..

Not that the last 2 hold any water in TX..

1st I have to put something out there.. before I can worry about it..

Re: Property Defense in West TX Question

Before mounting anything to a phone pole, check with who ever owns the pole.
If it's owned by a phone co.
they may not allow you to mount anything to their pole.
was tossing ideas out there.. not planning on agravating the electric company anytime soon.. I may need them..

lonewolf wrote:IMHO, pulling up and seeing activitiy/signs of occupation require law enforcement intervention. No sense in backing into a buzzsaw. Bolting a stove down will make it even more inviting as a stopover point. Perhaps flying an American Flag while you are there will let them now the place is occupied and they should avoid it.....of course that doesn't work well with the country as a whole, does it? Perhaps a sign that flashes "Occupado" or something.....just trying to help...

Sounds like a nice peaceful getaway for the most part, wish I had something like it tucked away somewhere. Try to get to know the local Border Patrol agents and the local law enforcement as well.

I got the local BP hub and Sheriff on my cell already..

I figured also a fresh fence and LOTS of new NO TRESSPASS signs may also act as a deterrent..

I located some mountable Solar Spot Lights I may mount up.. high on the local telephone poles near the road also.. they are motion activated and self-sufficient :thumbs2: not sure if I am going to mount any on the structure??.. still alot of questions.. I may also dig a shallow trench and lay some barb wire in it.. just beyond same new low fence..

try to leave only 1 easy way in/out may be a good idea also..

Property Defense in West TX Question

I have property over in Jeff Davis County... and I plan on having a 16 x 16 building Weekender Rancher (by homedepot) put upon it for a vacation retreat.. (see picture of design).. this will be about 60 yards from the road and in plain view from the road.
RanchTuff.jpg
Its on a paved (of sorts) road about 6 miles from US90.. and just off of FM2017 (about 3 miles).. it is 14 miles from the Rio Grande and my surveyor reported NO ACTIVITY when he was doing the survey and also noted there is border patrol presence out that way.. keep in mind this is 153 miles south from El Paso, where there is constant border problems..

I am not planning on leaving ANYTHING in it..when i am not actively there.. maybe BOLTING a woodstove in it..

I plan on covering the windows with wood and such as to prevent entry without some force on the intruders part..

I also plan on putting up a stringer type of fence and NO TRESSPASSING SIGNS in both English and Spanish..

The Question:

If I were to fly out (for my vacation) and drive out to it, and have a TX (or in my case my PA CCP).. and find someone on my property, in the building, or in general tresspassing can I legally defend MY PROPERTY?? :fire

Want a little clarification...
