Honestly, I feel the same way you do Medic 624... I'll not sell a gun without ID and a Bill of Sale. If the buyer doesn't have a CHL I'd run his info past LE. Purely for my own peace of mind.

However.... I also read your original statement as... "public transfers should not be allowed without a CHL"...
It wasn't just Froggy that read it that way.

Cheers. :tiphat:
Huh, ya know... In re-reading I can see where that may be the case or interpretation. That is absolutely not my opinion but my opinion for my own peace of mind for a transaction if I am selling "public transfer" style...
Thanks for the different insight. :tiphat: But as I followed up I thought I had cleared that misconception ... Maybe I hadn't but again, thanks.

I need to speak out on that one.

Everyone has the right to buy and sell guns unless they are a prohibited person (felon, etc.). I do not agree that someone must jump through the licensing hoops to be able to exercise their God-given Constitutional right to buy, sell, and possess arms.

The position you stated does not help restore firearms rights. It is one thing for a person to express they'd rather sell to a licensee, but being against all non-licensee transfers is objectionable.

I pass up a lot of gun buys because all their must have CHL or must sign Bill of Sale, etc. . . I personally do not want someone else to have my information. So they can keep their firearm and find a sucker somewhere else.
Okay, Im not trying to be confrontational or flippant but how is being careful who I am buying from or selling to something that should be avoided?
I am simply attempting to ensure I am not:
a. Selling to someone who is not authorized to own a firearm
b. Ensuring that if I sell to them and they use the weapon in a crime (by having a record of the sale) I am not investigated down to what underwear I buy or possibly implicated/charged in the crime until it can be hashed out
c. Minimizing the possibility of purchasing stolen property

As I said, I have bought person 2 person with only a handshake and some cash but, that is on their conscience to feel comfortable I am authorized and not a wack-a-doodle felon

On other boards I have seen other people who have the same sentiment as yourself...I just never had to opportunity to ask why.

Thanks... :tiphat:

Mr. frog... Objectionable to you or not...Let me reiterate...I never said I was against it or I felt someone should jump through a hoop to purchase a firearm from a private party... I simply stated that I (me personally) don't feel comfortable doing it without having at least some type of personal knowledge that the person I am selling to has the legal right to own a firearm. The best way for ME to at least have some peace of mind is to request a CHL ... This is not to say I have not bought person 2 person but, that is on them to feel secure that I'm not a felon. My being careful does nothing to restore or erode firearms rights... That, is the position and duty of the appointees we vote into office. It is our responsibility to make every attempt to know that the candidates we are backing have the mindset to protect and not allow a reduction if our 2nd amendment or access to ownership. So, if you have another way for me to know or have a reasonable knowledge that the person I am selling to is not a felon etc... I'm all ears. :tiphat:

As an aside... There was someone ranting and freaking out saying they were taking down IP addresses and emails and were sending them to the FBI for personal transfer of firearms without a Federal Check...

And a few replies bashing them for it ...

well we all know the rules for transfering guns in texas so who cares if they send it to the fbi?
Ha ha ha... I know that's what made it funny... Maybe I didn't relay it well enough...
