Google Earth & Texas Gun Ranges
I have been playing with Google Earth trying to map as many Texas gun ranges as I can find. I think I have about 190 ranges marked. There are several good sites that list the information but I like seeing them on a map instead of just a list. It’s fun to zoom in for a birds eye view of the range.
I have only marked ranges that I was very confident on the location. You can either see the range or in a few cases the range web site provided directions that left little room for error. I have also included a link for the range web site if I could find one.
I think other forum members will find this information as fun as I have. I have looked for a way to post the file online for easy download but I’m still looking. If any Google Earth users would like a copy of the .kml file send me a email and I will reply with the file attached.
If you find any errors or omissions please let me know.

Nice job!
Huf,
This looks good. You nailed all of the ranges in my area so I was not able to add anything. Thanks for sharing.

I'm happy that other people can enjoy my wierd hobbies. Thats one of the many things that makes this placs so great. Someday I might get bored again and work on the list of gun dealers.

Hey, now that's pretty cool. Thanks for the effort.
BTW, Backwoods T.R.A.P.S. (between McKinney and Denton on Hwy380) is no more.

I can't open it? Is there something else I need to do?
Thanks,

Save the file in the same folder as 'temporary places'.Jim101 wrote:I can't open it? Is there something else I need to do?
Then, FILE->OPEN the Texas Guns.kml file.
Then it should appear in google earth under 'places' as a subfolder in 'temporary places'.
Hope this works.

Re: Google Earth & Texas Gun Ranges
Assuming you already have Google Earth installed on your computer just save the file to your desktop. Double click the file and it should launch Google Earth. In the sidebar under Places you have a folder named Temporary Places. The file will be in that folder. Check the box and you should see everything.
You can also start Google Earth and do a File Open and open the file from where you saved it on your hard drive.

Pretty cool work, thanks for sharing. good ranges are becoming as scarce as real conservative presidential candidate.
