Range Report....Marksman 10/26/2011

SWMBO and I decided a range trip was long overdue. Two new weapons needed to be 'tested' and some old friends needed to be given run out. Despite the fact that we usually go to The Arms Room, we needed to go to Marksman because we were going to shoot shotguns :anamatedbanana and The Arms Room ban such evil, evil weapons

We took a handful of firearms:

Glock 19
CAI P-64
Mossberg 500 shotgun
Izhmech Saiga 410 Shotgun
Bersa Thunder

We also took the AR but we couldn't shoot that there! What is going on with these ranges? :headscratch I guess they can't accomodate any rifle greater than a .22LR? They said I could shoot my 223 if it had a 22 conversion kit.

A little background to the guns. The Glock is my wife's range gun and she just loves to shoot it.
The CAI P-64 I picked up for $150 as a car/truck piece after a friend at work almost got car jacked in Kemah at 5pm on a Friday afternoon! That made me want to get a cheap gun to keep in my wife's car, and if it worked well, get one for my truck. This was bought online and it looks awesome! It is a 9mm Makarov caliber so I had to go online and order FMJ and JHP ammo for it as most places don't carry it or want a war pension for it! Here is a picture (hopefully)

The Mossberg 500 is my house gun but my wife was afraid to shhot it so I wanted her to at least try it once at the range.

The Saiga was my attempt to 'kick down' the shotgun kick for 'her indoors' in case she didn't want to shoot the Mossy, plus it was an excuse to buy a new gun! lol This was bought online for $300.

The Bersa....well regular readers will know that we always used to have issues with this gun so I just wanted to run a few through it to see how it functioned as it is one of my backup guns.

So we arrived at the range around 3:30 PM, got strigth onto two adjacent lanes and set up.

I was keen to try out the P-64 but really wanted to see my good lady with the Mossberg too.

Maybe it was a mistake, but I loaded up the Saiga first. 4 cartridges into the magazine, click clack, shooter ready. She rattled off all 4 without any issue, unless you were the center of the target! Man that thing blew the middle out of that thing at 10 yards! So then I handed her the mossy with one shell in it. It was funny! "rlol" She aimed, pulled the trigger and BOOM, off flew her ear protector from her right ear. She handed me the gun, gave me that 'you better not ask me again' look and picked up the Saiga again! She was a little worried about the weight of the Saiga but she found that if she holds the magazine she manages it quite well. That bad boy is accurate too. We ended up putting 25 through it and it just ran like a train.

The P-64 was a little devil :reddevil It has quite a lively discharge but again, the accuracy on that little gun is amazing! 1" groups at 7 yards gets my vote :thumbs2: The pistol itself takes a little getting used to because the mag drop is at the base of the grip, but I would trust it to function and it ran flawlessy with 30 rounds through it. Not bad for a 1972 weapon. I wouldn't like to shoot it all day though, but for the purpose it was bought for and for $150 I think it is a keeper and it quickly has become one of my favorite little guns. I may have to break my own rule and buy a couple more. :biggrinjester:

The Glock was, well a Glock, flawless shooting, accurate and reliable. Love me some Glock...every now and then ugly is beautiful :)

The Bersa was a real pleasant surprise. 30 rounds and not a single problem. It is a smooth little pistol and despite all the teething issues I still love this little gun. Once it had it's little trip to Colorado Gun Works it has not failed once. :fire :thumbs2:

All in all a good range visit...despite some of the scary people there! lol

Thanks for the report Kevin. I'm glad to hear the Bersa is finally running good.
