Austin: Attempted suicide at shooting range

Woman shoots herself at shooting range
A woman is still alive after she walked into Red’s Indoor Shooting range in Southwest Austin this morning and shot herself, police said.

Sgt. Richard Stresing with the Austin Police Department said the woman, who is in her 30s, did not threaten anyone nor did she injure anyone else. Police said she her injuries are critical, and she was taken to University Medical Center at Brackenridge.

The range is located in the 6200 block of U.S. 290 West.
This is from the Austin American Statesman's Police Blotter (not an actual article) So there isn't much information.
I'm assuming she went there and rented a gun.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

Almost without doubt. This is why many ranges in Southern California won't rent a gun to a person who's alone.

Wow. Times have changed. There used to be an indoor range in Monrovia called The Firing Line which would rent guns to anybody old enough - alone or not. I used to shoot there. But that was a long time ago.

Usually they won't rent to you if you are alone unless you have your own gun with you, are a member/well known to them, or some exception along those lines. There was an incident just like this at Champion Firearms in College Station within the past year or so. Man went in, rented a pistol, and killed himself with it on the range.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
