Does anybody remember gun range on South Main , Houston, TX
Does any one recall the name of a gun range that was out on South Main in Houston? I'm old so I may be confused but seem I remember one and shooting there a time or two way back. IAJAOG

I remember a gun store down Post Oak near South Main but can't remember if it had a range. Also a range way South on Almeda near 8.

Yup, I used to shoot trap and skeet there, (I was just out of diapers...). If memory serves, it used to be about where the new Fire station is now, just south of 610 on Main.puma guy wrote:Does any one recall the name of a gun range that was out on South Main in Houston? Thanks! At least I am not crazy. I shot skeet and trap there, too. I don't remember a rifle/pistol range. You don't remember the name by any chance do you?PBratton wrote:Yup, I used to shoot trap and skeet there, (I was just out of diapers...). Thanks T.O.M. You helped me win a bet! Sorry no money involved in the bet or else I would share. My bud said it was Houston Gun Club (Not!) and I said So Main. I don't remember Hooks. I used to refer a lot of folks ( I was in the sporting goods business) to Bailey's out on Blubonnet. I think it 's been there since about the forty's and is still there. I used to shoot Trap and Skeet at Whitewing out on Davidson (Olin Matheson Rd) off Laporte Hwy (Now 225) which was a nice facility. Thanks for the memory (yours that is).T.O.M. wrote:South main Trap & skeet' the shop on sout post oak was Hooks he used to be at the range,Baily's is South on Almeda near 8 is still there

Bill Tanner. A Ghost from the past! I believe he is deceased. He was a great guy. I watched them build the range and when it first opened I was thoroughly disgusted watching the "trainers" go through the paces on the skeet field with the trap release in one hand and a Model 1400 Winchester in the other breaking targets one after another while quoting the lead distances to the observers. There were some interesting "tournaments" after hours at Whitewing. Ha! I ran into a lady working in a post office that remarked about my TSRA hat and our conversation led to her trap shooting days at Whitewing and some mutual acquaintences. Most passed away unfortnately. Ever shoot at Hot Wells?ElGato wrote:puma guy wrote:Thanks T.O.M. You helped me win a bet! Sorry no money involved in the bet or else I would share. I used to shoot there too when I was barely able to hold a shotgun, .410 / 3" bore.

I used to shoot there on my high school skeet team. Yes that was allowed in back in the day. We took our shotgun to school, and it was a good thing. I think there was a go cart track called cartsville real close to it.
