A rock quarry in Mckinney where you can just go out and shoot? I thought to my self this is insane after I was told this by a police officer. He gave me detailed directions and then later that day I drove there, only about 10 minutes from my house I was pretty excited but I did not know what to think about the whole thing. So I drive there a "pickup is the minimum" you can drive down there with due to the road or lack of. I drive down into it and park . You over look a pond, but the pond is surrounded encircled by a 20-30 ft walls. Okay I get out of my truck and ther are shells everywhere all over the ground a whole lot of casings over a long time shotgun, handgun I didn't see any rifle though. Has anyone else been there or know about it?

Whose property is this rock quarry on? Do they mind it being used for a target range? I'd be reluctant to go out there and shoot without clearance from the landowner.

Aftre finding out about this place I have shot there 3 times and on each occasion it's been just a blast where else can you shoot a car? FUN. This land is owned by a landcompany and is for sale 50 acres. I would guess that the land company has no idea about it at all but you can see by some of the trash down there people have been going there for at least 30 years. old pull tab beer cans old budweiser vintage. when I was there yesterday there were also two separate groups of people dove hunting and a guy four wheelin and getting stuck. Shot 300 rounds yesterday and 250 today. Saving major cash on range fees. Upon closer inspection I found numerous large caliber handgun shells .44 mag 45 long colt .357 .45

Is this the place I heard about on the news this morning? All I heard was somewhere in the metroplex police busted 4 guys for shooting at a rock quarry. A concerned citizen had called the police.

long winded

I dont know possibly? I was shooting there yesterday with no problem. Where did you here this story? This place is not really close enough for any one to hear anything the closest parking lot is maybe a quarter mile from where you shoot and if you shoot in the quary no sound escapes at all until your very close. I do know at night you do not want to be down there because it is heavily traffic'ed by teens and other various people up to no good and the police do go down there after dark so my rule has always been to leave when it gets dark. Yes this is the place at 75&Wilmeth. It's interesting that they were arretsed for just shooting cans and bottles I bet they were doing something else that got them arrested in conjuction with being there and shooting. probably a combonation of firearms drugs and, or alcohol and incredible stupidity. I go down there very frequently and there are consistenly new casing's and shot shells "different color-very clean-still smells"..... I would really like to know more about this story if anyone can find more but I hope it was not this peice of heaven I have found. To L.E.'s if you came across somebody target shooting in an out of the way place out in the woods 50 acres not close to anybody at all and being resposible would you arrest, ticket, tell to leave or no action? but if there were cleary being irresponsible would you act differently? if it was a grown man compared to somebody in there late teens and clearly all the mental differences that go with age would you arrest, ticket, tell to leave, or no action

So you just show up on someone's land, who you do not know, and who has not given you permission, and shoot just because everybody else does it?

Sounds risky to me. Aren't trespass charges enhanced if you have a firearm? Granted, I did stupid things like this when I was a kid, but I am much more cautious nowadays.

I actually called and have permission to shoot out there, all you need to do is call, I love your presumptions that I'm some sort of free for all go shoot it up and with complete disregard to everything and everyone. I don't really care what happens to anybody other than me while I'm down there. I go in the morning and during the day I would also like to add that I normally only shoot .22 down there mainly because of the incredible cost of every other caliber. Your just can't shoot 1100 rounds for $20 in any other caliber. Anyways I'm being resposible down there shooting cans and bottles left from others -- no in the air shots no shooting blindly into the woods If the cops show up while I'm down there I'll simply say call the # on the advertising board "I have permission to be down here" i would still really like to know if anybody could find any info on a arrest made down there with evidence to back it up. I have gotten the feeling from a couple of members that they think this is just an aweful idea, well good for you guys, If I thought was I was doing something illegal I probably wouldn't share it and be Like hey I'm doing this look at me. I tryed to share this as a positive thing for other people who like to shoot. DO YOU LIKE SHOOTING INDOORS CRAMPED UP IN A PARTITION SHOOTING ORANGE DOTS ALL THE TIME? I know I am sick of it, with all my shooting at ranges I was never able to learn or train 1-100th of what you can when your unrestricted My normal distance for pistol shooting is normally a minimum of 25 yards and up to 100. When was the last time you shot down on one knee from concealment at targets or Over the hood of a car, while walking, running, jumping, rapid fire at your target Are you really ready for the sound of your .45 going off with out ear protection and have it not rattle you one bit and be able to take aim at yet another target and fire accurately and repeat this process until the mag is empty and then when it's over you do it all again, and all you pay for is the ammo, great huh?

Witness, I'm sorry if I insulted you, but from your comment above...
I would guess that the land company has no idea about it at all but you can see by some of the trash down there people have been going there for at least 30 years
...

It sounded very much like you just showed up and began shooting. You never mentioned anything at all regarding getting permission from the landowner until you blasted me for assuming you did that.

I suspect none of us have any problem with shooting outside, for free, but we simply never had the information from you that you actually got permission.

Please re-read your post above and see how it was easy for us to jump to that conclusion.

Good job guys. glad yall got this worked out. I remember when as a kid we were able to shoot in the claechie pits of any farmer that you would ask. I miss those days. Good that there is still a place or 2 where it is possible.
