This is the second time I've tried to write this. The first time I posted it disappeared. Hopefully this one will take.
I decided to drive over to Lonestar Guns Gallery and Gear in Weathorford this last weekend. I live in Trophy Club and it took me about 40 minutes to get there in weekend traffic.
When I first walked in the door I first noticed how clean and large their showroom was. Right out of the gate I was asked if they could help me. I met one of the owners Hayward. He told me they remodeled an old skating rink. Hayward said he has just retired from the military after 29 years if I'm not mistaken. I dropped my gear off by the range rental desk and decided to look around. I really like the fact that they carry large selection of 5.11 gear and clothing. They have large selection of automatic weapons, shotguns and handguns for purchase. They also sell different types of ammo and other shooting accessories.
One of the things I came to see was their Prisim system. If your not familar with it supposedly it's one of the most realistic ways to train. Basically you have a situation unfold in front of your eyes via a big screen projector and you have to respond appropriately using your weapon and real ammo. The system keeps track of whether you shoot. Hayward told me that he has SWAT Teams and PD's come to train on it. There were two guys shooting when I came up to look at it. It was quite entertaining watching them go through the different situations.
Once I looked around I decided to go shoot. When I got back over to the range desk I was asked to read over some basic rules and sign a waiver. Upon completion of the waiver I was given a range card to present next time I came to shoot. The range being brand new was VERY nice. With your range fee you get 1 free target. These are not the small targets I've usually gotten at ranges but a fairly large bullseye target. The range was also marked off at CHL distances so you could move your target to those distances if you wanted. I shot the first 50 rounds I brought with me and wanted to shoot some more. I went out and asked to see what they had as far as range ammo. They had a great deal IMO of 50 rounds for $12.00. Not as cheap as you can find but pretty good for buying on the spot. The other cool thing is you don't have to sweep your brass unless you want to keep it. They will sweep it for you. VERY nice.
So, I have nothing but good things to say about this range. The only drawback is that it's further away from me than I would like. If you live in the Ft. Worth area I highly recommend driving out to take a look at it. Even if you live anywhere in the DFW area it's worth a drive. Check it out. I''m sure you will like it. The staff is friendly and the facility is top notch.
