Long range rifle shooting ranges in DFW area?

Alpine in Fort Worth has a 100 yard rifle range.

Garland Public Shooting Range has a 100 yard rifle range.

Top Gun in McKinney has a 500 yard rifle range.

Tac Pro Shooting Center in Mingus has a 1,000 range.

Tiger Valley (which I believe is somewhere between here and Waco) has a 1,000 yard range.

Those are the ones I know about......Well, there's Quail Creek, but I wouldn't recommend that one to anybody.

I can only recommend Top Gun. It is the only one I have been to.
It is actually near Leonard, which is 23 miles Northeast of McKinney.

The owner is very friendly and there is no "Range Nazi" there. It is safe, clean and good targets.

Customer Service?
Pay your money, observe "Cease Fires" and have a good time. If you need help with anything, just ask. They are really nice people and love to talk guns!

• Elm Fork in Dallas has a 100 yard rifle range:
  This is where I do most of my rifle shooting. I wish they went to at least 200 yards, because that is where I would like to zero my .308s. But other than that, it is a nice facility. The RSOs are friendly and courteous. The old guy who seems to work this range the most is a really nice guy. He was giving my son the business a week ago for not carrying my target out to the line for me. You got to like that if you're an old fart like me.
• Alpine in Fort Worth has a 100 yard rifle range:
  I've only shot rifles there a couple of times, and the last time was probably 4 or 5 years ago. It's a decent range. I've shot skeet there 3 times now too. But I live in Grapevine, and Alpine is further away for me than Elm Fork. Also, Elm Fork was more recently renovated, and is in better shape. Service at Alpine is pretty good.
• Garland Public Shooting Range has a 100 yard rifle range:
  I've never shot there, and I couldn't tell you anything about it. I had it in my head that they went to 200 yards, but I guess I wasn't remembering correctly because I checked their websiste before posting my original reply. I believe that Beiruty had a bad experience at Garland related to poor customer service, but I may not be remembering correctly.
• Top Gun in McKinney has a 500 yard rifle range.
  This one is about 60 miles from my house, but I am eager to try it out. Everybody who has been there seems to really like it. The price is right, and the owner's attitude is right on. Others can tell you more. Beiruty, among others, had a really good experience there. Top Gun requires you to ding a 8" steel plate at 200 yards before allowing out to 300 yards, and you have to do it again at 300 yards to move out to 400 yards, etc. etc.
• Tac Pro Shooting Center in Mingus has a 1,000 range.
  I only know it by reputation. I don't really want to drive 90 miles to shoot, although that seems to be what's required to shoot at really long ranges. That always surprised me when I first moved to Texas. Back in California, I had a 750 yard range about 20 minutes from my house in Pasadena, and a 1,000 range about 45 minutes away. Like most longer ranges, Tac Pro has some kind of qualifying ritual you have to pass at 200 yards in order to be allowed to shoot at longer ranges; and if I remember correctly, you have to qualify again at either 500 or 600 yards to be allowed to shoot to 1,000 yards. I don't know anything about Tac Pro's customer service.
• Tiger Valley (which I believe is somewhere between here and Waco) has a 1,000 yard range. I believe that their setup and programs are much like Tac Pro's. I don't know anything about their customer service.
• Quail Creek:
  Recommended only for people who enjoy getting yelled at and abused by nazi RSOs who take privileges with your person and personal possessions if you look them in the eye that would you cause you to administer them a butt-woopin' on the street for such behavior. Other than that, their customer service is OK. I'd rather have a vasectomy.

Thanks for the fix. I'm actually meeting my son and his friend at Elm Fork on Saturday to shoot our ARs.

When several of us from the forum met at and shot at Elm Form I enjoyed it very much. I did not shoot at the 100 yard line, but the RSO's were very nice and polite and even helpful when my Henry jammed.

BTW, we need to do that again sometime after it cools down a bit so I can try out everyone's .380s and try to figure out which one it was that I shot last time and liked.

My dad finally decided he wasn't ever going to shoot his WWII Remington 1903 30-06 anymore and gave it to me. The only thing I had to replace was the firing pin. I took it to Elm Fork yesterday and it was great! I also took my Henry and .22 semi auto Marlin. I didn't get to shoot the Henry because I dropped the wrong box of ammo, .45 instead of .44mag, in the ammo can. They wouldn't let me shoot the 1903 on the 100 yard range without a scope, so I only got to shot it on the 50 yard range. I had better groupings with the 1903 than the Marlin. Both just using the iron sights.

I think if I get the chance I'd like to try it out at that Top Gun range in McKinney and see if I can get it out a bit further. It does has the flip up rear sight. Does anyone know if the Top Gun range has a scope restriction like Elm Fork does?
