Range Owners and/or Operators

There is at least one TV station that may be contacting shooting ranges to ask about insurance coverage and possibly other issues like range construction compliance with the non-existent NRA Range Manual. Do what you like, but my Club is going to simply say "yes" we have insurance and refer all calls to me. I"m not suggesting that you refer calls to me, not by a long shot! But the point is non-attorneys aren't going to be answering any questions for our Club, beyond the "yes" for insurance. The station is trying to show few if any ranges comply with this requirement.

Tex. Health & Safety Code Section 756.045 requires outdoor shooting ranges to have $500,000 insurance coverage for personal injury and $500,000 for property damage.

Tex. Health & Safety Code Section 756.042 requires outdoor shooting ranges to be constructed and maintained according to the NRA Range Manual. However, there is no NRA Range Manual and there is a Texas AG opinion that correctly states that provision unconstitutionally abdicates legislative authority to a private entity and it thus unenforceable.

As John King says, "I thought you would want to know."
