Announcement was emailed today. They are already renovating to add private lanes and improve the facility. This is great news for Grand Prairie.

Definitely good news for shooters in GP (and the area).

I frequent Shoot Smart in far north Forth Worth, and it's a great place to shoot. Everyone I've encountered has been helpful and the prices are more than reasonable.

Is this news a bit of poetic justice considering your relationship (current or former) with Great Southwest?
I wouldn't call it poetic. But it means I will go back to shooting there.

Just an instructor-owner issue. I used to teach there until I decided I could not longer teach the way he wanted. History now.

Have no idea who Shoot Smart is, but do you know if they'll keep the archery lanes and archery merchandise? I used to shoot my bow while waiting my turn for a firing lane.

Shoot Smart is a north Fort Worth shooting range/gunstore that has been operating for a few years. They've got a very nice range, and seem to be a very friendly staff. Have no idea what changes,if any, they'll make to the Grand Prairie location, but you might give them a call to find out.

817.984.8020 is the main number.

Ok, thanks for the info. I rarely venture out to the north Ft. Worth area since I'm south of Dallas, so am not familiar with the ranges up there. Glad to hear, though, that they're a friendly bunch. I may give them a call and ask about their archery range. Also glad to hear they're wanting to expand lanes. It can get pretty crowded there on the weekends; hence, my use of the archery lanes while waiting on a firing lane (unless the archery lanes are all used up).

Well, if my experience with Shoot Smart is a reliable indicator, y'all will be happy with the change of management.

From an instructor viewpoint, don't for a minute think that you'll be able to rent a classroom or qualify students at any facility run by Shoot Smart. They are not outside instructor friendly. And I am a member at Shoot Smart, so I don't harbor any ill will. Just FYI.

I "was" a Pioneer Member at Shoot Smart, when I inquired about qualifying students the "gentleman" I spoke with was rude, condescending and generally an ___.
I have not been back since. I will not patronize their new location either.

Funny enough, if anyone remembers Paul who used to run Great Southwest he helped my sister and brother in law buy their house in Plano.

My sister remembered him from when we shot there a few times, he said that he has absolutely no connection with the people who sold great southwest any longer and said it was old news to him.

With the commission he made from just their house I could see how one would want to transition  not saying he wasn't good because they said he was the best real estate guy they had ever met with, just as friendly and personable as he always came off to be at the range.

But I though Great Southwest was a family affair? I could be totally off the mark.
