Just moved to the Temple area. Any recommended clubs or ranges in the area? I'm looking for an indoor pistol range that will allow jacketed ammo, and an outdoor rifle range that goes to 300 yards or more. Haven't done much with sporting clays, but enjoy the occasional round of trap. My home club back in PA had all of these at one location (indoor range did NOT permit jacketed ammo). Open to recommendations and thanks in advance!

Check out Weber's Guns in Temple. They also have an outdoor public range just north of Troy with day use and memberships available.

I used to shoot there, but I'm in Waco, so I joined the Waco club which is north of town. I don't know if there is a Temple club or not. And the only indoor range anywhere around that I'm aware of is H5 Tactical in Waco, but it is not a shooting range, it is a simulator.

Thanks. I'm sure Ft. Hood has ranges, but wonder if they would be open to civilian use. Killeen isn't too far, though, so that's an option. Guess I could start with the local gun shops and ask what they know of or recommend.

Hawkeye Shooting Academy opens in Temple July 18.

Temple Gun Club has rifle out to 300 yards. I am not a member but I shoot IDPA/USPSA/Steel Challenge matches there frequently.

Big +1 for Hawkeye Academy. Nice indoor range and they have lots of machine guns you can rent.

Fort hood is open to civilians, but you have to register your weapon by serial number.
I would recommend Texas Star Shooting Range just 4 miles past Copperas Cove. You can rapid fire but they do not have
any long, long rifle ranges. Anyway, the url is below. I do not know the length of Fort Hood's rifle range.

The Fort Hood Sportsman Range where you could shoot pistols and rifles was closed a couple weeks ago. The skeet and trap ranges are good to go though. Range 2 and 3 both have skeet, Range 2 also has trap. Range 1 has trap and 5 stand but the 5 stand is only open the last weekend of the month if I remember correctly. We occasionally have fun shoots and there are registered trap and skeet shoots several times a year.

1 round = 25 targets

Sendero shooting sports complex just broke ground on 190 between Belton and Nolanville. No clue what it will include (web site not up yet) but it's right here!

Does Weber's have a 100 yd. indoor range? Those are good for sighting in an AR, especially with all this wind we've been having.

nope, Weber's range is all outdoor

71Eagle is spot on, Fort Hood Sportsman's Range for rifle and pistol has apparently now been closed. When it was open, rifle range only went out to 100 yards. However, there "used to be" a steel man hole cover on the side of the hill that was at 300. If the RSO caught you shooting at it, depending on which one was on duty, you either got a "don't do that any more," or thrown off the range.

Fort Hood still hosts occasional matches, a 3-Gun is coming up later this month, but all firearms have to be registered with the Provost Marshal's Office.
