But did the DPS representative have to say assault-type rifle? I thought better of DPS.

It's only an assault rifle if used by a non-LEO. When used by LEOs they are merely "long guns."

And now they are demonizing a belt. How many of us own and wear one of these evil ballistic belts?
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Prohibited person so how did he get the rifle? Private purchase? Missed NICS check? Straw buyer? I'm sure more will come out.

I hate to think we should just come to expect this but it's not exactly uncommon.

Or, put on the foil hat, another false flag by the swamp creatures who have elevated their efforts to disarm by mass murdering the deplorables to weaken their defense of the 2A.
The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

What a horror, and what a clear mandate for reasonable men and women of good character to be armed.

I think this works just the opposite.

Makes me wonder this guy's motivation....and if the motivation of the Las Vegas shooter was bottled up?

Sorry, I will take my tin foil hat off now.

That's why it is better not to sell a firearm as a privet person or just to a licensed person.

There is no credible evidence regarding how the gun was obtained by the sack of excrement, it's possible that he already owned it, before the dishonorable discharge, or it was obtained by illegal means. In my opinion, guessing, or putting forth unsubstantiated theories, is no better than what the MSM is doing.

More info will be forthcoming, so I will wait and learn more, before guessing at motives, affiliations, or any other things that are all conjecture at this point. Prayers for all affected by this tragedy, I hope that the victims families and friends are comforted by the fact that their loved ones are now wrapped in God's loving arms. We may never fully know all of the facts, but we do need to be extra vigilant, and never believe we are completely safe, no matter where we are.

I watched the news conf earlier and they were saying he had a car full of weapons, that's a bunch of weapons for someone not allowed to own one.

Who on this forum wants to get in a gunfight...handgun vs AR-15. The quickest way to get the bad guy to start shooting in your direction is to start shooting in his direction. I have read multiple forum members state that their gun is for THEIR protection. (including family) If I am sitting in Church, restaurant, theater, Etc and some nut starts shooting, I am going to take cover and protect my love ones. If that nut starts to directly threaten me then I will engage him. This is not to say that if I am close to the guy and have a good shot that I won't take it. But I strongly believe that any shooting like this is going to be mass confusion, with many innocent people moving around, and a clear shot opportunity will more than likely not present itself.

A torso wound needs a trauma surgeon. An extremity wound MIGHT be helped by a tourniquet. Sometime the best thing you can do is to load the victim in your car and drive fast to the nearest hospital. EMS in going to engage in triage and all this takes time. Most EMS departments in Texas do not have Paramedics. EMT's can't offer advanced life support. Internal bleeding can kill very quickly and some victims might not have the time to spare for EMS to get there and decide who goes first. Even small hospitals have surgeons that use that hospital. That Doctor might be close enough to respond to the hospital in an emergency. Houston only has 2 level one trauma centers and both of those are in the Medical Center downtown.

Today's mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, was only halted after an armed Texan "engaged" the killer and put an end to the rampage, the Texas Rangers reported.

Let’s see how the left spins it. This guy is a hero no doubt about it.
