As drug addicts become more desperate in hard times, pharmacy robbery rates have skyrocketed along with an alarming increase in the shooting and killing of customers and employees.

Although some pharmacists are armed, the one killed in the 4-person fatal incident in LI, NY, may have been
discouraged from getting his NYS CHL due to the red tape in that non-2A friendly state.

The murderer was arrested quickly in that one. He lived 1.5 miles from the pharmacy. His Facebook page
stated that he was a fan of the Springfield XD. Don't anyone say I'm blaming the tool. I'm just stating what I know
about this guy.

Things like this support a good argument for being aware of your surroundings, always carrying, and not frequenting businesses which do not allow you to defend yourself.

If I worked where employees were not allowed to carry guns, I'd probably carry anyway, PROVIDING my carry method was completely invisible, as mine is. At least I would have a little bit of a chance if something like the pharmacy killing occured. I don't advocate breaking the law, but sometimes a line has to be drawn, and a decision made based purely on personal conviction and good old commn sense, and then be prepared to suffer whatever circumstances may come along. Of course secrecy is a must. No one knows I carry except my wife and no one ever will cause that defeats the whole purpose of self-protection.

Clearly the way to solve this problem is take guns out of the equation. If robbers couldn't arm themselves, they wouldn't be shooting people.

I used to work for a large pharmacy chain and they had the strict no guns policy. They also had only 1/3 of the cameras in the pharmacy working, and of course no security personnel at all. So if I was the guy that got someone popped for forging a script or something when that guy gets out the next day I get to worry about him on top of the people going in armed to take controlled meds. I am not gonna say what I did to assure my safety, but sometimes your life is more important than some dumbass policy.

Oh, btw... 3 months after I quit a friend of mine that was a pharmacist for the same company was found beaten to death inside of one of his rental properties. Dunno if it was related to the field or a robbery gone bad, but it is a thankless job that can turn deadly fast.

...obey the law...ignore the policy...life is more important than company "rules"...and I don't want to hear the usual "I have to have this job" stuff...you HAVE TO live or die...I have carried most of my life...only carried a badge for eight years, only had a permit for nine, now...and NEVER have I been discovered...if I value my life more than some job, I'm smart enough to carry every single day and keep my mouth shut...and the ONLY way it can come up is if you have to use it...

...if you were going to die tomorrow at noon...and had to list your 3 most important things in your life...I guarantee it even your DOG would make the list before your job...excercise your RIGHT to stay alive...and do it wisely...and pray that you'll never have to use it...like I do...your FAMILY will help you get another job...if you live to be fired...

thanks for the advice, folks. got the wifey signed up for an Oct 2 CHL class... i've been talking to her about carrying a lot lately and she kind of shrugs it off. I dont want her to feel like im forcing this gun into her purse, i think that's probably the fastest way to turn a girl off to shooting altogether. however, i am concerned for her safety as she leaves the pharmacy at 10:30pm once per week, after her closing shift.

...yup...I'd be there waiting at the pharmacy door as she walked out on the 10:30 night...seeing your concern for her will go a long way towards convincing her it's a real threat...

If your wife is like most, such a decision has to be processed with time and consideration to the point that carrying all the time is almost an emotional response rather than a rational one. Based on your statement, you already seem to be doing things appropriate to build this response. Might be best to keep it low key and always emphasize safety (in using firearms, carrying firearms, personal awareness and safety, home security, etc...) when oppotunities arise in conversation. Most women I know are fiercely protective of their loved ones and this can be quite an advantage when discussions arise, as long as safety is stressed.

I don't have/need a job (fortunately) so that would not make ANY list.

I wouldn't worry about my job. I have enough sick days to carry me that far if I am diying tomorrow.

1. God
2. Family (includes Wife, Daughter and Dogs)

Ask her if she might like to be alive tomorrow?

If she refuses to carry, no issue, just make sure she carries a big-fat life insurance. Seriously, I believe you can't force people to do what is best for them,unless they have the drive and intent to do it.

How about this, take your wife to open range (defensive shooting) and do not provide ear-protection, let her attend a string or 2. Many do not appreciated how deadly firearms are, because they never witnessed one in action.
