"Lisenced Handgun"
A tow truck driver used his "Lisenced handgun" to shoot a person whose wehicle he was towing when the man confronted him.
I am holding out hope that it does not really mean concealed handgun lisence holder, but it does not look good.
The "journalist" twice refers to "lisenced handgun".

Re: "Lisenced Handgun"
Ignorance in the media about licensing/registration is simply breath-taking. Sadly, that ignorance gets communicated to the public. An acquaintance at church last week told me that he had inherited a lever action rifle which was registered to his grandfather. When I told him there is no such thing as gun registration in Texas, he was confused. "Are you sure? I mean, he bought the gun. Wouldn't it be registered?" Even after I explained the legalities to him, he was shocked that it might be so, and still not sure whether or not to believe me. I let the matter drop. You can't fix ignorance with the willfully ignorant.

..."A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still"... "registered" sounds SO much more exciting...The Annoyed Man wrote:Ignorance in the media about licensing/registration is simply breath-taking. Sadly, that ignorance gets communicated to the public. Though, honestly, in this case, I'd rather have the "journalist" refer to the GUN the way he did rather than draw attention to a CHL holder if that's what he turns out to be.

Was the person with the lever-action you tried to explain this to FROM Texas, or from some other state where firearms are required to be registered? I am convinced that one of the reasons we continuously hear that sort of thing from the "entertainment industry" is that most of the programs are made in California (which has some registration) and New York (which has a LOT of registration). That is the sort of thing that worries me with so many people coming into Texas so rapidly, is that they will bring those ideas here and "infect" the way we do business in Texas...I HATED the gun laws in California, and it seems like the ones in New York are worse, perhaps way worse.

...we here in Texas have a bumper sticker that covers all that...

Re: "Lisenced Handgun"
I would be interested in hearing the rest of the details, and seeing how this plays out...
A tow truck driver, being chased by someone, in that part of town, at night, who is holding a beer bottle...
It has all the potential elements of clean self defense--dark, an armed aggressor, and the articulated belief that the aggressor had a weapon (Last time I checked, a beer bottle *is* a deadly weapon if one knows how to use it).
On the other hand, with the same elements in play, it could very easily go the other way....

This is where most people gain their "knowledge" about guns.Heartland Patriot wrote:I am convinced that one of the reasons we continuously hear that sort of thing from the "entertainment industry" is that most of the programs are made in California (which has some registration) and New York (which has a LOT of registration).

...that's why we wanted 12-shootin' cowboy guns and silencers for our revolvers...and I actually saw a modern movie a coupla nights ago where the actor was loadin' his revolver...and the camera showed that the cartridges had bullets in 'em...and clearly showed that there were no primers in the hulls...
Re: "Lisenced Handgun"
He shot the man when he saw the victim's gun. But it was a beer bottle.
Previously same company had an employee killed in a shoot out with another "customer" in a tow. Other towdriver, a CHL, killed the "customer" who killed the fellow employee.
So I could see why the towdriver might be a little quick on the trigger.
FYI, Hawaii requires you register your gun, rifle, shotgun within 72 hours of the guns arrival in Hawaii. No exceptions not even for out of state police on business. And better not show up to register it with it loaded and not in a locked box.

Got a buddy who moved to Hawaii a few years ago and had to go through this hooey. Re: "Lisenced Handgun"
I've got no reason to want to move to Hawaii nor even visit there. If I want to go to the beach, there are a whole lot of miles of it along the Texas coast...and if I want to go the beach NOT in Texas, well Florida isn't that far away. In any event, I can do it a whole lot cheaper than going to some state that doesn't really want me there all that bad anyway. They don't like me, fine...they don't need my money, either.philip964 wrote:He shot the man when he saw the victim's gun. But it was a beer bottle.

Re: "Lisenced Handgun"
Sorry, I didn't see your question until just now. The young man in question was born and raised in Texas. He is generally very pro-RKBA, but he is also generally ignorant about his rights and the law..............which, sadly, is the case with far too many gun owners. Articles like this one tend to perpetuate their ignorance by perpetuating the myth that guns need be registered or that owners need be licensed. This ain't New York.Heartland Patriot wrote:[My following question is serious, not baiting anyone or meant to disparage anyone, I promise.]The Annoyed Man wrote:Ignorance in the media about licensing/registration is simply breath-taking.
