Deputies are investigating whether the father bore any criminal responsibility in the death of his son.
I should think so. The kid was under age and should not have been drinking. He also should have had the gun secured when he brought out the alcohol.

Senseless and sad. Doesn't mention if the tank was full of LPG or not. It was most likely a propane tank not butane, anyway if was full and punctured by the bullet the neighbor's would have been calling 911.

While I would agree with all here, the act was irresponsible, it's NOT against the law for a minor in Texas to consume alcohol when under direct parental supervision. as far as I have been led to understand..
106.04 Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor
(a-b) A minor commits an offense if they consume alcohol unless they are in the visible presence of, and have the consent of their adult parent, legal guardian, or spouse.

You can disagree with the law, but personal ideals and morels do not come into the deal.. when the law clearly states otherwise.

Most large propane (or LPG, which catually contains butane) storage tanks are pretty think steel and I doubt a handgun bullet won't penetrate it very easily. High powered rifle bullets are a different story.

Either way, this guy was an idiot for choosing this as a target.

From an article in the paper.

It was a .380 and it killed him with one shot.

He removed the magazine (Chronicle story said clip, yes more puppies died) and pulled the trigger pointing at the tank.

He may have not been aware it was still loaded, as guns always are.

In addition to alcohol a girl was also involved, as she was afraid to fire the gun.

The url below is the last I read about the drunken boy. He didn't shoot at the tank, he pointed the gun at his head. The whole family are in the country illeagally.
