A preventable home invasion

If either the man had been armed answering the door or the woman had been armed in the safe room, it would have been game over for those two thugs.

And I found it disappointing that they have chosen to move rather than stand up to future criminals (who could just as well find them at their new home).

I will go as far as to say they are a part of the problem if they move, and for some reason I don't see them becoming gun owners and standing up in the future. So many neighborhoods would be safer today if residents stayed and stood up rather that perpetuating a vicious circle.

None of us should be surprised by this guy's attitude. It is exactly what is taught in schools today. It is also why you have so many victims in the inner cities.

What would be interesting (note that I DIDN"T say productive) would be to ask this man about the statement in the Declaration that he has the God given right to life. My guess is that the response would look a lot like deer in the headlights.

There would be a moat filled with alligators at my house before I abandoned it because of concerns about who was going to come to my front door.

People like them are enablers, and next to the criminals are the biggest reason for the problem. I do not respect, and in fact resent, that mindset.

Instead of taking two thugs off the street, they emboldened them for the next victim, and other criminals will take advantage at their new home if they don't change their way of thinking.

I'm wondering if they were the types prone to "counter-proselytizing", which would have explained their willingness to engage the visitors.

What good will moving do if you don't protect yourself? Even if you live in a very nice, safe neighborhood, you have to realize that nice homes have the attributes that makes them a potential target for thugs looking for a big score. We had some idiot driving through without headlights on around 11pm one night and came close to rear ending one guy as he turned into his driveway. Neighbor called police and they actually passed the vehicle and stopped them. Nothing really came of it, but who knows what they could have been up to? Had something happened it would be the typical, "it's such a nice area, I never thought it could happen here". Unfortunately, that phrase is too commonly used as an excuse, because people have a false sense of security and don't take any proactive measures to protect their families.

Who hides money in a cookie jar anymore. Better yet who looks in a cookie jar. Which begs me to wonder are they telling the truth about the $3000.

These people struck me as being naive enough to do that and probably incapable of telling a lie.

Doesn't surprise me. The guy had a New York accent. He's definitely no Texan. That's why I'm a proud Texan!

Now I know this term is grossly overused but ... it is the Sheep mindset where it is better to cower, run away and hide than put up a fight or stand in defense. Ie... Urinate, vomit or tell your attacker you're on your monthly period rather then fight back. I believe the majority of Americans still have the mindset of defense but as is the current laws in England I can see the liberal mindset trying to steer laws steadily toward reasonable defense or using only enough force to thwart the attack. collective submissive groupthink is the only way to control the masses.

It is just like all these "Demand a Plan" flocks. Really, what are they demanding... the Gov't to control their lives. Baaaaaaaaaa

When strangers come to my locked door, I don't open it.

I speak with them at an angle through the door.

I also keep a handgun in my hand placed behind my back.

To be fair to the couple who were invaded, they aren't like those of us with a wary mindset. They're naive and foolishly trusting. I find it hard to believe such attitudes still exist.

The man has a door peephole with no need to open the door to strangers. Many think they're socially obligated to open their door to strangers and think it rude to not do so.

No one is obligated to give an audience to strangers.

To keep your door closed and locked isn't rude, it's prudent.

When strangers come to my house I don't answer the door or even acknowledge their presence. I am under no policy to be polite or talk to them when I am on my on time. In fact I really hate being bothered at home and tend to get rather abrupt real quick if they knock in violation of my no soliciting sign. Unfortunately my other family members give them time and I have to step in and run them off as "polite" as I can "rlol"

"...it was just after 6 in the morning..."

What kind of missionaries go around knocking on doors at 6 in the morning?

I'm sorry, but these people are idiots.

A. I don't open my door to strangers without precautions in place.
B. Situational awareness may raise those precautions to defensive measures.
C. Some situations may raise those defensive measures to offensive measures.
D. If someone knocks on my door at 6AM, they better be bringing me coffee and donuts.

These two can move but it seems to me they will always be victims...
