Hmmmm.....something just doesn't seem right about this one. Have to keep looking for updates on the investigation.

Agree. I think guns falling to the ground then discharging are much more rare than what gets reported.
Cleaning out the cabinet and the gun fell and discharged and just happened to hit his brother in the chest? :headscratch
Don't know. I wasn't there. It's possible. But I'm inclined to guess "playing with the gun when they shouldn't have been" is closer to the truth.

Kids and teens at home means all guns are in a safe. Period.

eta: KHOU says the 12 year old was handling the weapon when it "accidentally" discharged. Very sad! :nono:

Sounds like the shooter didn't know about gunshot residue tests when he came up with the first story.

I had my own shotgun and full access from the time I was 15. I even took it to college with me. I have never been without a firearm since, except a short period of time in late 96 and early 97.

When I first got my own guns (first was a .22 on my eighth birthday), they stayed in my dad's gun rack. It was sometimes locked, but I knew where the key was and I was frequently home alone.
By the time I was 12 or 13, I had my own gun rack in my own bedroom. At 14 or 15, it contained two rifles and two shotguns plus ammo for all, and I was in sole possession of the key. I managed to never shoot anyone. (Though I will not claim that I never handled the guns when I knew I wasn't supposed to without my dad being with me.)
If I had kids that age today, I'm not sure if I could be that trusting or not. I suppose it would depend on the kid and how much responsibility he or she exhibited.

What makes me suspicious is "teen cleaning out a cabinet". Right. What teenager cleans anything? Unless he was making room for his stash
