In Alvin (Brazoria County) around 8:45 a.m. today, a 24-year-old man observed that his neighbor was in the midst of a home invasion.

The man reportedly started shooting at the alleged criminals, who (everything "reportedly") returned fire and killed him.

The victim of the home invasion also was injured and is hospitalized.

Two "suspects" were arrested a short time later. A third man showed up at a hospital with a gunshot injury and is assisting the police in their investigation.

The two victims may be related. In any case they had the same surname (Garcia, which is a common Mexican name).

This is a very sad story. I have a lot of respect for him for attempting to help. In fact, he could have still helped by ruining their plans and forcing them to leave early. In a situation like this, I'd try to put the engine block between me and the BGs. It's probably the only part of my car that would make a good cover.

Interesting and sad for the deceased victim. I'll be curious if there was a reason for the home invasion of that particular house.
