A tragic but probably "good shoot"

A supposedly actual account as read a non-CHL forum. Note that it took place in California where self-defense options are few, but at least you can catch a Stevie Wonder concert for your troubles.
A few days ago in Oakland, CA. U.S.A. my parents was driving and slow down when heading to a speed bump and all of a sudden they got stop by some little kids asking my mom for some food.and saying that they are hungry.. My mom was in the drivers seat and her purse was in the back seat. The kids and their mother came and start surrounding all 4 doors and tried to open the doors to steal my mom's purse. Luckily my dad was there and grabbed my mom's purse and scared the kid that tried to reach for her purse. My dad got out of the car and started chasing them while waving his cane. My mom yell at him to stop since he was in his 60's and was a stroke and cancer survivor so he could easy get hurt if he fell or worst cause another stroke.

I'm glad no one got hurt and my mom's purse wasn't taken but what I'm shock about is that little children was involved. My parent told me that the mother of the children was a chubby black lady and the kids was between 7-11 years old. It's one thing to do the crime yourself but it's just the lowest to get children involved. What if they robbed the wrong person and the kids could had been hurt or worst killed. Other victim could had step on the gas pedal and run over the little kids.

While it would be tragic and haunting to all involved, am I correct in assuming it would have been a "good shoot" had any of the perps breached the vehicle?

I'm also assuming that Texas law would classify it as a robbery or home invasion since the victims were present.

The dad getting out of the car was unwise to say the least, and could have lead to a Zimmerman-type incident?

Would the use of children make any of you hesitate to shoot or run over one of the threats?

Here is the source thread. Just like here, I'm "rp_photo":

Yes.
Probably the case for any compassionate person, but it could prove fatal.

An ultra-tough split-second call for sure.

I don't think it's coincidence that the states where you are least able to stand your ground have it the worst.

Yes. As I know that my wife doesn't carry $25k-$50k in her purse, and that's the average amount I'm going to spend in legal fees, it's simple math.
Would I display? Maybe. That's why I question people who say if you're going to pull you should shoot.
7-11 year old kids that aren't on the right track, I blame the parents. Killing one of them over a purse would be tragic, even if legally justified. I don't want to be on the other side of that. And I don't want to be judged by a jury of my peers on the issue.

And no one needed to die in the encounter as described. Non-lethal intervention was sufficient. Sometimes we don't have to shoot, even though it might be permitted by law. :smash:

As I see it, displaying is a less-than-lethal option and in most cases the greatest value of a gun.

Not good humor referring to children this way.
Definately get you arrested.

I would guess the psycho mother would welcome it if one of her children were 'sacrificed' for the resultant legal ramifications i.e., money...

I don't get it. If your doors are locked like they should be little kids can't reach in a grab anything. I see no need to do anything in this scenario but drive away. If the kids block your path, call the police. I don't perceive any real threat in this situation unless one or more adults is exploiting the action of the children to forceably enter your vehicle. Getting out of the car is downright stupid. Displaying a gun is likely to get you charged with something, and shooting a child who isn't pointing a gun at you is going to get you prison time. I'm not sure I could even shoot a seven year old if he was pointing a gun at me.

:iagree:

If it is just kids beating on the doors and the doors are locked. I am going to turn the car on (for the ac), and sit tight while I call the cops. Now I will be on alert and have my gun ready in case the adults start flashing weapons at me.
