Folks find attention on the internet. The more extreme the ideas and expressions, the more attention they gather. Extremism is bred born and matured and polished on facebook, forums and in places like 4chan and 8chan/pol/ It was on 8chan/pol where this shooter's plans fermented. It was here that he published his manifesto. In his mind, he became a hero to followers of like-minded people.

Was he a copycat? Yeah, no doubt he intended to equal or exceed the feats of those who preceded him. Was he a part of an organization. Probably not, but he did have his followers and those who encouraged his bigotry and blame.

Just how many people are out there right now, seething with such rage that they seize the chance to hurt and kill strangers? I'd like to think that people are generally good and that we could change the course of these lives before things fall apart so horribly, but it's very hard for me to muster any sympathy for these monsters.

So, both of the killers were wearing ear-pro? Never seen that one before, and now two mass killings in the same day with an identical feature not seen before? Oh, wait, just a coincidence, right?

Democrats are all pushing hard on an "assault weapons" ban. My fear is that some republicans will decide it might be advantageous politically to go along with it.
