Does it include paperwork proving it isn't stolen government property?

There are plenty of firearms with police markings that I have seen for sale.

I would have no problems buying a PD marked from some place like GT knowing I will get a receipt and there's a reasonable presumption that it was actually a police trade in and wasn't reported "lost" and sold on the black market like that NYPD crook. viewtopic.php?f=83&t=56449" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If I was buying a PD marked firearm in a private sale, I would want a BoS from the seller and a copy of the previous BoS from the dealer to cover my back.

has Colt serial numbers. If I did the lookup correctly, yours is a 1918 model. Nice find.

Were you joking? If not then a lot of 1911s are running around out there marked US Property. It is not at all unusual and is actually a selling point for some, like me. It is extremely unlikely it is stolen, at least from the Feds.

That is a GORGEOUS 1911. Whomever purchases it is a lucky man and I am envious of him.

Curious. It does not have the relief cut on the receiver like the traditional 1911A1. I think this is more like a 1911 instead of an A1. Someone who know more info on this may chime in.

Doc is correct about the date the gun was made. Any 1911 made in 1918 is a 1911 not an A1. The A1 mods were put into place in 1924. Your gun has a 1911 frame and slide an A1 trigger and mainspring housing and probably an A1 grip safety. The mods were probably done as arsenal overhauls sometime between WWI and WWII or right after WWII. There were a ton of former service 1911 pistols sold by the DCM (now CMP) after WWII and before the GCA of 1968. In about 1960 a service grade pistol sold for about 30 bucks.
