WTT Remington 700 308

#1

Post by txdeerhunter »

I have a remington 700 sps in 308 with a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 with V-Plex Wide Reticle scope. I am looking for a AR but not a 223 or 300 black out or a bullpup rifle. I am in Plano but will meet halfway.

Seeing what is out there. I don't want a 223, 556, 300blk or 6.8.

I'll ask again nicely, what ARE you looking for in an AR(i.e. what calibers do you want, not what you don't want)? I think you'll get a better response if we all have an idea of what your are looking for. Just a suggestion.

Here's what's out there. You decide. Keep in mind that the less popular calibers will cost you more because of their relative rarity.

That list does not list .308, which is shocking to say the least. I can imagine that he is fond of .308 due to the fact that he doesn't like .223/5.56 like myself. Is it safe to say that you are looking for an AR-10 OP? I personally prefer a .308 in an AR platform.

The metric equivalent to a .308 is 7.62x51, and yes, I know there is a difference between the two. (To you detail sticklers! :rules: )

That leaves:
  • .300 Win Mag
  • .308/7.62 NATO
  • 7.62x39
  • 6.5×39mm Grendel
  • .450 SOCOM
  • .50 Beowulf
  • .460 Ruger
  • 5.68 TLR
There are probably others, but on some of those, your ammunition needs will "reduce" you to handloading for it.

Quite simply, you cannot use .308 in an AR-15; the magwell isn't long enough. An AR pattern rifle in .308 is an AR-10, which is why it isn't in a list of AR-15 calibers.

Don't forget the AR in 22 either. That's actually why I kept asking in case that's what you were looking for  . Also, dcphoto, thanks for the explanation of difference between AR15 and AR10 platforms.

There are differences..... For one thing, the AR15 is a standardized platform, and the AR10 is not. For instance a Rock River Arms AR10 will not accept the standard "SR15" magazines that most other AR10s will accept, and vice-versa. Not all bolt carrier groups are alike. Not all recoil buffer systems are alike. But I think the biggest problem is magazine compatibility.

Sorry....I didn't mean to sidetrack your thread.. I know you didn't want an AR15 in one of the calibers you mentioned. The AR10 platform is not the same thing.........as well as listing a bunch of other calibers that you didn't specifically exclude, so I thought that it was within the rules. Hope you find what you are looking for.

I did not notice it was only list ar-15 calibers, but may I remind you that I did not say .308 can fit in an AR-15. A "platform" is a generic term that I use. I only mentioned a .308 chambered AR-10, not all AR styled rifles are the same.

Txdeerhunter, you never did further specify what caliber you were interested in trading for.
