You show your friends your Henry, but you show your enemies your Marlin. The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 5:57 pm I think that reflections from the shiny brass finish could alert game to your presence.
I have a friend that has the brass receiver and has been hunting for years without scaring any game away. They shoot very well and are very smooth. The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 5:57 pmThe have the side loading gate, but also retain the removable magazine tube: https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/side-gate-lever-action/OldCannon wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 5:07 pmSide loading Henry?! I'm waiting for them to come out with a blued-receiver version. I'm not much on the shiny brass look. I guess it's attractive, but it is not very utilitarian. I think that reflections from the shiny brass finish could alert game to your presence. Hence my preference for a blued version. But, they are available in .30-30 Win, .38-55 Win, and .35 Rem - all of which are useful calibers, even if the .38-55 isn't as easy to find as the .30-30 and .35 Rem.
The only thing my brass receiver Big Boy .44magnum has scared off is a couple of my daughter's boyfriends.txhighlander wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 6:43 pmI have a friend that has the brass receiver and has been hunting for years without scaring any game away. I already own a Henry Octagon Frontier .22, and it’s a fine little rifle; so,I’ve no doubt that the .30-30 is too. But I just prefer the look of a blued receiver. I’ve already asked Henry if they plan to come out with a variant like that. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s asked. They told me that if enough people ask for it, they’ll offer one because it won’t make sense not to. Then maybe I’ll pick one up and sell my336BL.... or not. I have multiple ARs, so,why not multiple .30-30 lever actions?txhighlander wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 6:43 pm I have a friend that has the brass receiver and has been hunting for years without scaring any game away. As long as you guys keep bumping my "for sale" thread to the top, I’m good with it.
