Kimber Ultra CDP II

Post by orionengnr »

Kimber Ultra CDP II, bought new in January 2010

My wife owned a 3” Springfield Armory GI (steel frame) and made the mistake of trying my Ultra Carry one day. She sold the Springfield shortly thereafter and bought a new Ultra CDP, which she immediately shot much better. I paid for the work by Ken Crawley (http://www.crawleycustom.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), because I wanted hers to be just as good as mine.

--4-lb trigger job by Ken Crawley at Crawley Custom—includes bar stock single-sided thumb safety, hammer, disconnect and sear. I still have the original ambi safety, if you want it.
--Crimson Trace “carbon fiber” pattern laser grips. I cannot seem to find the original grips.

However, she does not shoot frequently, and although it was her intent, she has not gotten her CHL, and she does not see it happening anytime soon.
So she has asked me to sell it.

Pistol has about 500 rounds through it—50 rounds of mixed factory FMJ/JHP and 450 rounds of my mild 200gr SWC target handloads. Zero malfunctions of any kind.

Original box, papers, etc.

We have owned eight Kimber 1911s (four of which have been alloy-framed 3”ers) and each has been reliable and accurate. I carry a 4” Pro Eclipse every day.

There is a reason I keep buying Kimber 1911s—that reason is…because they work.

I see some people talking smack about Kimber reliability, so I will extend this offer:

I will be happy to meet you at Bass Pro Grapevine any weekday evening and let you fire as many rounds of whatever ammo you choose through it before you buy.

Okay…let’s talk price.

The pistol cost her $1010 plus tax (MSRP is $1331 these days).
The Crimson Trace laser grip was $259 ($299 these days).
The trigger job was $175 (I don’t know what he gets today, so we’ll leave it there)..
Total is $1440 back then, or $1805 today…

I would like to get $1250. If you do not want the Crimson Trace, I will take another $150 off.

Pics available…just send me an email address, and if you want any specific photos, let me know.

I will leave this up for one week to Texas CHL holders before I post elsewhere. I would prefer that the new owner get to hold, shoot and evaluate before purchasing.

I was thinking to myself, with any luck, this guy doesn't live anywhere near Grapevine (where I live) and I'll never have to torture myself over whether or not I can afford this gun.

Kimber hater here. If you have a good one and you are willing to let the buyer shoot it...I think thats a heckuva way for someone to buy a Kimber. :tiphat:

Personally, I would rather buy a used Kimber that works really well than a new one. Just a thought: Make sure the prospective buyer does not limp wrist. I found the hard way with my G30. I always thought it was my Kimbers fault...until I was properly educated.

While you freely admit at the beginning of your post that you are a "kimber hater", please don't assume that all prospective buyers might limp wrist a Kimber because they are not familiar with a Kimber.

I have purchased/traded/sold 18 Kimbers in the past couple of years. Bought from folks here on the forum, and sold to quite a few folks here on the forum. Of all the Kimbers I have owned, only one used 1911 and one new model Solo have had a problem. Of all the Kimbers I have traded or sold, no one has ever reported back that they had a problem with the gun.

The 1911 was a used early edition Ultra Carry with external extractor. Sent it in to Kimber, they returned it with a new internal extractor equipped slide, new barrel, polished internals and brand new new night sights.... and they knew when I called them that it was a used gun I had purchased at a gun show with no idea about rounds fired or history of the gun. The repairs cost me nothing but shipping one way.

The early Solo models have had a few problems, mine included. After sending it in to Kimber, it has run perfect in every way. Kimber picked up total costs of repairs, including shipping both ways.

So hate Kimbers all you want..... but some of us have had fantastic results with kimbers and are not inexperienced when it comes to buying one. If I end up purchasing the seller's Ultra CDP, I will not need to fire it before the purchase. He is a reputable poster here and his description and experiences with the Kimber are enough for me. If a problem were to arise in the future, I will either fix it myself or once again trust Kimber's great customer service deparftment.

Haven't been on here for a while, but I saw this and had to confirm what DaveT posted. I have not dealt with as many Kimbers as he, but I have dealt with 9 of them, many of them from DaveT. I have NEVER had an issue with any of them, used and new alike. Maybe one day, a bunch of then will fail, and I will become a Kimber hater as well... But I seriously doubt it. I would imagine you'll find infinitely more Kimber lovers than haters if you polled people with personal experience.

BTW, Dave, I have still not shot the Super Carry or Raptor... Too pretty! The only issues I had was everyone wants to shoot them, limiting my time with them, people often ask to buy them... And someone once forced me to trade my Ultra Tactical II (too good of a deal to pass on!). No worries, I'll get another Tactical eventually.

Oh, and this CDP for sale? With the custom work and laser grips? Heck of a deal. Someone please jump on this before I'm forced to sell an organ.

I'd sure like to add this Ultra CDP to my 'keeper collection', just waiting to hear back from the seller.

Well, no response here, to PM's or e-mails.

Guess the seller had another offer, or didn't want to drive halfway to meet.

I'll keep looking, thanks anyway !! :tiphat:

It's definitely a keeper! Saw your last post... Hope y'all are able to connect! After you posted, I went ahead and made a deal on a used Super Carry. Now I have one for shooting, and one to stay pretty! Lol. Dave, you are solely responsible for my new Kimber addiction...

Well, thank god I saw this too late as well. I would have to offer up a nice Walther, and cash, and my aspirations for a new S&W Shield...

I've decided against buying this extra nice Kimber Ultra CDP II from Rich, so it is still for sale.... and at a very good price considering what he has done to it and including the CT laser grips.

I have another major back surgery coming up on the 25th and I had to seriously think about the wisdom of purchasing another Kimber right now.

My thanks to Rich for waiting while I made up my mind.
