I was surfing some cool storage solutions for vehicles (because I always like to play 'build the ultimate bug-out kit' game in my head sometimes...) and came across this!

All I can say is... it certainly looks interesting.
Apparently it has 2 combination locks, 1 that pops the top open, and 1 that allows you to remove the top from the base.

Thoughts?

That's a slick idea. Would make a good bedside gun safe too if you could bolt that bottom piece to the floor somehow.

It looks like a solid storage box. Just be aware that the combination lock is of a type that would not be easy to operate successfully in the dark without a flashlight or with shaking hands during an incident.

I'll have to disagree with you on that one. I have one of these "Combi Cam" locks on three different gun safes (bedside table, my office, and the "Console Vault" in my truck). I can open any of them without looking light or no light in seconds. It takes PRACTICE to be able to do so (train muscle memory and brain to coordinate the right number of turns in right direction for each dial without looking).

Of course, I've only done this ONCE with any "fear" of real harm coming my way - giant thud outside one night, popped up out of bed when my wife said "what was that", had my Glock out of its bedside lockbox in a couple seconds, and off to my kids' bedrooms to make sure they are safe .... turns out it was a large heavy box that fell in the garage (had put it back on the shelf, but didn't shove it back far enough).

The trick is to set it one or two digits away from unlocked when you are near it. When you leave the car, mess up the combo. When you get it, put it one away, or even unlock it. THEN, you rotate the knob to open. Works great and not as bad as you think.

If you're disciplined enough to maintain your system each and every time you get into and out of your vehicle, that sounds like a plan. The important thing is that it works for you.

Totally different item than the one I linked to. I read some of the complaints which mention motor noise, slow response times, etc. Those problems do not plague the real deal, only the cheap imitations AFAIK.

It's like someone praising their Kimber and then someone else comes along and says, "I had a Ruger and it stunk!". Apples and oranges.

Be careful which one you buy. I saw a video just a few months ago on Youtube where the subject demonstrated that he could defeat the lock on a couple different kinds of those boxes just by rapping on it a certain way with his knuckles. I just tried to find it but couldn't. But that video was posted here.

Well, not exactly. It's more like having two companies that call their guns Kimbers.

Apparently a couple of different manufacturers have used the BioBox name for their biometric safes. I haven't seen anything negative on the ones manufactured recently by SmartTouch Biometrics, but those made by a couple of other manufacturers over the last several years have had issues. The relationship between these companies, if any, is unclear.

It any case it would be wise to use caution if buying older stock through eBay or another similar source.

I totally agree with you on that. In this case, the dead giveaway is that it will store 200 fingerprints. The older ones stored far less (I believe it was only 6).

All I know is that my 82-year-old mother can open mine in 1 second. That says it all, for me.
