I carry different firearms depending on what I am doing, but I need a good solution. I prefer to carry my full size 1911 IWB. At the moment, I have an off-the-shelf Bianchi leather holster. It is comfortable while standing however, some movements are a little difficult. I have found myself readjusting too frequently. In what I have read, I have been leaning towards a CompTac, or Crossbreed. The main problem I need resolved in addition to comfort is size. I'm 5'11" about 190lbs...I am not one of those large shoulder V-shape guys that could wear a bazooka IWB and nobody notice. Is there anyone out there that is about my size, and carries one of these 2 holsters with a full size auto? Any thoughts on this at all?

Cannot comment on the CompTac, but I consider a Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe is hard to beat. I use it very comfortably for both a true Colt M1911, circa 1917, and my Spfld .45 Microcompact GI. I had to go for the CompTac IWB for my son's S&W Mod. 19, .357 revolver, with the 4" barrel, because I couldn't get a Supertuck for his old, (older than him, and he is almost 50) but trustworthy, "Combat Magnum." Waiting for the CompTac, and anxious to see how it goes.

I do have a few pounds and inches on you, but I stand by the Crossbreed.

I use both with four inch 1911's and both conceal very well.

If you decide on the Comp Tac, the versions with two belt attachment points (e.g. Infidel with Gurkha Strap) are much more stable on the belt than the single clip types alone. Crossbreed comes with a two clip arrangement by default.

Thanks for the link, I ordered a Crossbreed yesterday.

I carry a full-size M&P 9mm 4.25" in a Comp-Tac Minatour IWB daily and no issues. Love it.

I'm a little bigger than you, but probably proportional (6'2, 220ish) with a gut...

I carry a 4 1/4" 1911 in a CompTac MTAC daily quite comfortably. While it's not "full size" technically, I also have carried my government size (5") in the same rig just as easily.

Find a good gunbelt (5.11's are great, and inexpensive as gun belts go), consider one-size larger in the waist, and give it some time. You'll do fine. Like almost everything else about carrying, it's more about the decision to be successful with it, and you'll find the right groove.

I will say this about IWB carry...moving the rig 1-2" forward or backward makes a HUGE difference in how it "fits in place" and tucks...so don't be afraid to move it around just a bit--the change can be night and day.

I have a Crossbreed and a Comptac coming, which ever one I don't like I am trading a buddy for a Mosin Nagant....I love having good friends.

I agree with this strongly. A good gunbelt is just as important as a good holster for concealment. This is especially important when carrying a heavy gun such as a 5" 1911. The Government Model is slim, which lends itself well to concealment, but you need a good belt to hold it tight to your body.

at 5.6" and about 140lbs I carry a full size 5" slide springfield no issues. no belt most of the time eithe. I wear a flannel shirt over the top of it and cant see a thing unless you know what to look for.

I think that the most important thing is to carefully pick the garment that covers the holster. I am retired so I wear jeans and T shirts most of the time. A extra long T shirt fitted full, not tight covers just fine, for a holster that holds the pistol in close. Gander Mountain has Tall sizes for short sleeve T shirts. CABELA'S sells a heavy cotton knit shirt (Henley type) also available in short sleeve Tall. For dress up, I wear a silk T shirt under a sport coat. The T shirt is pulled down over the gun & holster. Yes, no more ties! I am a big fan of fishing shirts. Pockets for everything you need in life (cell phone, glucose tablets, nitro tablets, a few aspirin, etc.).

My normal holster for my Kimber Ultra is a Galco Jak Slide. I don't want any fancy engraving to draw attention. Without a gun in it it looks more like a cell phone holder than a holster. Perfect for the place where the gun can not be carried inside. I have a Galco Yaqui slide also but it carries the gun farther out from the body. That holster is not for the short Kimber Ultra. The gun does not ride close to the body and "flops" around. I do use the Yaqui size for a full size 1911 & strangely enough for a BDA .380. The holster is okay in the winter under heavier sweaters but not under a light cotton T shirt. I have a FOBUS paddle but very seldom use it. It holds the Ultra close, but the paddle shifts as it's worn. I always have the JAK slide on my belt 24/7.

To carry a spare magazine I use a Wilderness nylon-velcro holder. I use to wear a IWB leather magazine carrier. I have a little gut, the magazine must have rode up out of the carrier and one fell out. We were at Disney world at a restaurant. The lights were low, so I was able to scoop it up without any fuss. I gave those two carriers away. Why we were there someone was mugged in a Disney world parking lot.

For military try the nylon belt for BDU''s. It's almost as good as a Wilderness belt, but at a fraction of the price. I carry a Kimber Ultra Eclipse (all stainless) and it carries the weight just fine. The price is so low that it makes sense to replace it when it starts to sag.

Wilderness also makes a holster/bag unit called a Safepacker. It is padded nylon with a buckle/velcro cover. Various sizes are available. I have one sized for my Ultra and a larger size for my full size Kimber. A larger size is available for long slide 1911's. I use these as gun cases when we run the roads in our motor home. Each bag will hold 1 handgun and 4 additional magazines. It can be hand carried and looks more like a handbag than a gun case. It has belt loops on the back. It is handy to throw one in the car, and still maintain concealed carry.

I have a crossbreed supertuck deluxe and it is my go to holster when I carry my glock normally I carry 22 or 23 and have no issues. I'm relatively small 5'7 150lbs just adjust the bight and cant of the holster so it is more comfortable for you. I've been happy with mine and I am considering another order for my 1911 full size. Nice thing about crossbreed is the 14 day return policy however I do not see myself returning itit

I carry my 1911 in a PCCH Don Humme IWB and it is very comfortable in summer and winter.

ive tried so many holsters and i prefer my milt sparks summer special 2 or a milt sparks versa max, im 5' 11" 200lbs and i carry my 5" springfield TRP in t-shirt and jeans, or t-shirt/polo and cargo shorts, carry it all year round and forget its there.

theres a long wait time if you order but i believe brownells and topgunsupply.com have them in stock from time to time.
