Does anyone have experience with Alien Gear Holsters?

#1

Post by ATDM »

I have been looking at Alien Gear holsters. They look great and have a lifetime warranty. The price is the lowest I have ever seen for Leather/Kydex holsters. I don't really need another set of holsters, but I still want to buy them.

I just wanted to know, if anyone has tried them out and can share an opinion.

Thanks.

You might want to post this over in the "Holster and Accessories" forum - http://texaschlforum.com/viewforum.php?f=13" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - probably get more responses.

I can't say much yet, but I got an Alien gear in the mail on Monday. Only took 10 days from placing the order to my mailbox, so I was happy about that.

Only been able to wear it a few hours last night, so I haven't gotten it broken in yet, it is some pretty thick leather, so it may take a little time to get there. Kydex looks nicely formed, I like that it curves over the barrel end of the gun instead of just stopping flat, also has adjustable tension, so you can take the kydex completely off and buy different shells for different guns. Alien also says they will trade out kydex with you for free if you ever switch guns.

The holster comes with a bag of extra screws and parts, as well as an allen wrench, so you don't have to find one in your toolbox.

So far, I am pleased, but will have to update later when it gets a little better formed to my side.

Did you have to pay for shipping? I know Kholster doesn't charge for shipping for items over $35 (and all of mine have been over that). I can't seem to find the answer on their webpage.

So far, it looks like a solid product, but I do wish they had an option for the leather part to cover the grip, too. In this Texas weather, I don't want to sweat on my gun. With Kholster, I cut off some excess skin and it covers the entire gun nicely. I have been wearing it for a few days and I can't even feel the gun. I do love the look of the Alien Gear and, as you mentioned, the complete barrel cover. If they gave me an option to extend the leather to the grip - I would make them my brand.

I will still get the holsters from them for my XDm and XDs - just because I like them...

Thanks for the info. Please, let me know, if you can answer my questions, when you get a free moment.

Yes, you have to pay shipping. My order for holster and a spare shell cost $8.45 S&H. Did not specify carrier, so I don't know if USPS, UPS or other, and won't until it's shipped.

Yes, had to pay shipping, and from some reviews I heard, you have to pay shipping back if you return it for the 30 day guarantee. So you are still out $15 or so. Carrier was USPS just FYI.

Our shipping "cost" isn't quite as high as theirs. I've sold off some holsters of the same style (CrossBreed) and shipped cross country and none have cost more than $3.75 1st class mail. The Alien's may cost more considering the materials are heavier than those used in CrossBreeds.

BTW, Kholster is having a 10% off sale until 9/1 - code is NEWSTUFF at check out to get discount.

Yep. I have already bought 4 holsters (2 for guns and 2 for mags) from Kholster in the last two weeks. Love the product, love the service. I don't even feel I am carrying with those holsters. I wish I had known about the kholster before I spent money on crappy stuff that was pain to carry, literally. Kholster is my holster for life now. I may still get a Alien Gear holsters for my XDs and XDm 4.5" just out of curiosity, as backups. I just have such confidence in Jimmy's service (from Kholster) and products that I don't need to look anymore. Alien Gear seems very similar, but their leather doesn't cover the grip, which is important to me, since I don't want to sweat on my gun during Texas summers...

Received my AlienGear about 10AM. PT92AF has been resting in it at about 4 O'clock IWB this afternoon. Considering I normally CCW small or medium frame pistols, the PT92 is quite a load and going to take some getting use to.

As for the holster - impressed with construction, materials, fit, versatility and design. In comparison to the "big name" hybrid brands, it is twice the holster at half the price with thicker leather and Kydex. For the PT92, I like that it covers the length of frame from rear of trigger guard to muzzle with just a small portion of the barrel exposed and the bottom opening curls slightly over end of slide. Did have to adjust the tension to lessen drawing effort when belt cinched IWB. Considering their warranty, ability to change pistol shells and adjust retention, these guys have done their homework. Totally impressed.

Haven't tried the extra shell for another pistol. Will let the PT92 break in and will try later. Did get a bag of spare parts, hex key, numerous screws and spacers.
