If it works, all well and good, but I can also foresee ALL of the politicians who were "on our side" trumpeting their support even if it doesn't pass due to something like this.
I feel like if these bills don't get passed, trumpeting of anything would be very foolish. I'd run and hide under a rock if I were them. Then we must vow to
turn over every rock to reveal those responsible. I'll say it again, the time is now, the table has been set....and I didn't dare make mom call me for dinner more than once! :nono:

In fact, I wish open carry was not the issue it's been the past couple of years as it only fuels the unfounded arguments and fears of those that opposed campus carry.

Open carry means nothing to me really, I can still carry concealed. What's important is my children, friends and coworkers being able to protect themselves while at work or in class.
100% agree. Open carry doesn't 'carry' much weight if I'm still restricted in my daily life of where I can carry. I'll take either, but campus carry needs to get done. Original hb308 should get done.

I detect a sense of urgency.
I can't be on the computer etc all day due to work. But, I do check-in a few times a day when I am able.
Checked my email and had this same "Urgent" post from TSRA. Glad you posted this, because I came here to
check and see if Dr Cotton had commented or made a "call to action" post of his own. I'll wait until he sounds the
alarm. Then act.
Also, want to say thanks to the guys that keep up with exactly what's going on this session and posting here.
It makes it real easy for guys like me to catch up with the day to day events (or non-events) taking place in Austin.
I've been highly disappointed in several past sessions over stalled pro gun legislation. There should be no excuse for
it this session. Period.

ditto. Legally carry more places, and campus carry, are much more important to the majority than open carry.

I flip flop on the merits of OC, but I'm in total agreement that campus carry should be available. I also think 30.06 needs to be reexamined to determine some form of requirements for posting. Being uncomfortable with guns shouldn't give a location the ability to deny a right.
I'm a little lost on the last one. If you're talking about a government facility, I agree; but they aren't permitted to do so now by law, some cities/counties just do it in spite of the law. If you're talking about private businesses, I have to disagree. They should be permitted to disallow guns for any reason they choose. I'm a big believer in 2A rights, but I'm also a believer in property rights. I'll let them know my displeasure by using my wallet.

I've sent an email message for my representative, the one who called me a couple of months ago and explained why he supported Strauss over Turner in the record vote for Speaker. I asked if he couldn't suggest to Strauss that:
  1. Since he supported Strauss, now it was perhaps Strauss's turn to support him in return.
  2. This is the time for Strauss to be a statesman and put his ego aside for the interest of Texas voters at large.
  3. If Strauss cannot be a statesman, support the representatives who supported him, and support the voters ahead of his own ego, that perhaps my representative should withdraw any future support for Strauss.
I will be sending the same basic message to my senator too, substituting Patrick for Strauss.

OK, let's take this to an extreme for argument's sake, shall we? If a movie theater/restaurant/convention center posted a sign out front that said "No Whites allowed," do you think that would fly? How about "No Christians?"

If you honestly believe 2A grants everyone the power to carry, then how is it different than racial/religious/orientation discrimination?

Please do keep in mind that I'm very much middle of the road on this, but I'm curious to see where the line is for folks.

Not a reply to you personally but in general the continued sentiment irks me. I'm sure serious efforts were made for all legislation.

I'm for campus carry and unrestricted carry but are we still crying over this?

Looks like because of campus carry attached to OC, we won't get OC. At this point I just wish they'd have left OC alone and maybe it would have went through. If campus carry and unrestricted carry were supported it they could have made it on their own.

I personally think that campus carry and unrestricted carry didn't have a chance for whatever reason since the beginning that's why the focus was on OC because it had a chance of passing, not because less effort was given to other things. No reason we should not have been able to get it all, but I digress.

So IMHO whoever attached campus carry to OC to end run the system just did as much damage to OC as OCT, all or nothing means we will likely end up with nothing. So if we want to lament over not having campus carry or unrestricted carry we can rejoice because looks like we won't have open carry either (and it was likely killed by campus carry, yeah!-sarcasm).

In the absence of revolution, we are having to beg, cajole, poke and prod to obtain what is constitutionally our rights anyway so we should be happy to take what we can get when we can get it.

The Democrats in the legislature, and across Texas, are all quietly laughing up their collective sleeve about this development. They were as sure as we were that Republican/freedom bills would dominate. They can't believe their 'luck' any more than we can believe our 'bad luck.'

Very disappointing.

Nobody has attached campus carry to open carry. The current holdup of open carry has nothing to do with campus carry.

I'm curious. Is the caption on this thread inaccurate? I've read and heard from several sources that nothing has been added to the OC bills.

There will be no backlash, the recorded vote for speaker won't mean a thing, and I agree, the Democrats must be laughing themselves silly, and can't believe their luck.

Oh, the OCT, OCTC guys will make lots of noise, but those knuckleheads don't have any clout anyway. They successfully got panic buttons in our legislators offices this session. There is an argument that says those guys are getting exactly what they wanted.

I've said it before -- See you in 2017. Until the current speaker retires, gets booted out of office, (not likely) or isn't re-elected speaker, we will be in the same situation.

We'll hear the problem is ego's between new guy Patrick, and established, seasoned, pragmatic, even tempered, Speaker Strauss. Don't be fooled, the new guy isn't the problem.

To the gun grabbers reading this: Congratulations, enjoy! The citizens of Texas sent (arguably) the most conservative legislature to Austin in Texas history, and one RINO is standing in the way of positive, 2A legislation. You will get your pre-k money (not enough to suit you, but more regardless) no open carry, no campus carry, and Republicans will be spinning for the next two years trying to explain why no 2A legislation got passed.

To pass Open Carry the Senate just has to vote on HB910. If that doesn't happen, the blame will most definitely fall on Patrick.

My understanding is that is WAS going to be added at some point. I think OC and CC stand alone right now. HB910 & HB308. HB910 has some amendments but not for CC.
