The Speaker's power is primarily exerted behind the scenes. When it comes to a record vote on the floor, legislators tend to vote their constituencies. Crossing the Speaker may keep you from getting the committee assignment you want, but crossing your constituents will keep you from getting reelected.mojo84 wrote:I think you underestimate the power of the Speaker of the House in Texas. The 3+ billon in Bonds that has passed might have opened up the passage of CC. Just a thought from the other direction.
I don't think we will see CC as long as Straus is speaker. I hope I am wrong on this.

It's not eligible until tomorrow (Friday).joe817 wrote:Looks like the Senate is considering bills on their "Notice of Intent", aka intent calendar as I call it.
Maybe HB 910 WILL be heard today.

Blade, I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm a layperson on all this legislative stuff.Bladed wrote:It's not eligible until tomorrow (Friday).joe817 wrote:Looks like the Senate is considering bills on their "Notice of Intent", aka intent calendar as I call it.

However, HB3236 was just heard, it came out of committee on 5/19 as well. just an observation.

I do see that HB3236 was distributed around noon and HB910 came out a around 5:45, that may be the kicker.safety1 wrote:Blade, I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm a layperson on all this legislative stuff.Bladed wrote:It's not eligible until tomorrow (Friday).joe817 wrote:Looks like the Senate is considering bills on their "Notice of Intent", aka intent calendar as I call it.

I agree....under regular Senate Rules. But the Senate can suspend the 3 day rule, and vote to suspend the rule for the 2nd & 3rd reading. The Senate has done that several times today. And passed those bills.Bladed wrote:It's not eligible until tomorrow (Friday).joe817 wrote:Looks like the Senate is considering bills on their "Notice of Intent", aka intent calendar as I call it. Note: As I understand it.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Senate Democrats to suspend the rules to hear HB910 today.

Does it take a 2/3rd to do so?v7a wrote:Don't hold your breath waiting for Senate Democrats to suspend the rules to hear HB910 today.
Just saying I haven't seen them yet to not suspend the rules.

Well, now the Senate has heard 2 bills, that are Senate Bills Returned from the House with Amendments. A different calendar altogether. (sigh)

Well, it's been 20 minutes since they stopped talking. Nothing is going on except people milling around.
But the video feed is still up. Just no action from the podium or floor.
Are they waiting for the session to end or what?![headscratch :headscratch](./images/smilies/headscratch.gif)

Sometimes I think they are just "waiting" for a "time" for a bill to "become eligible" ... or they went for ice cream

Idk about ya'll, but I tend to think the Lt. Gov. is going to be the one at the podium when HB910 is called.
