“Riley Howell, 21, one of two people killed at UNCC. He died in the UNC Charlotte shooting a hero, whose "sacrifice saved lives," Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Chief Kerr Putney said. "You're either going to run, hide and shield, or you're going to take the fight to assailant. Having no place to run and hide, he did the last. But for his work, the assailant may have not been disarmed. Unfortunately, he gave his life in the process."Putney said he promised Howell's father he would not provide too many details, but told news media that Howell took the assailant off his feet. It helped law enforcement apprehend him quickly, Putney said.”

Good for him, it is a tragedy that troubled people have to take other people's lives because they slip through the cracks. Someone knew this person had serious problems.

Gov. Roy Cooper said at a briefing late Tuesday that a "hard look" was needed into how the shooting happened and how to keep guns off campus and out of schools.

North Carolina is NOT a Campus Carry State. That means that this was another gun free zone that turned out not to be.

From the article, it said that the shooter had no previous interest in guns. That seems like quite a transition to using one to kill people in public. Good investigative reporters would be looking to see what was really going on but the media will be too busy hyping this incident as a reason for gun control to bother.
