Straus not running for a new term.

Straus not running for a new term.
Just got this in my email
“I believe that in a representative democracy, those who serve in public office should do so for a time, not for a lifetime. And so I want you to know that my family and I have decided that I will not run for re-election next year. My time as a State Representative and as Speaker will end at the conclusion of my current term.”

Re: Straus not running for a new term.
I got this email and immediately called my husband
This will give Jeff Judson (I think that's his first name) a chance, as he's running again for that district.
It will be interesting to see who tries for the Speaker position.

Re: Straus not running for a new term.
This puts Rep King's bid for Speaker in a new light. I don't think Straus would just up and quit without trying to quietly line up his replacement. When King pops up and says "I'm running" and starts gathering allies and getting established, and THEN Straus announces retirement, it reduces the room for some wild card (in Straus's view) like Scott Turner jumping in. From the comments of others here on the board, I think King was less likely a "challenger" and more like an "heir."

Re: Straus not running for a new term.
The democrats and RINOs will elect another Joe Strauss as Speaker. My Rep is a RINO and has a good rating on 2A issues but he will join the democrats on this. But we need a Speaker that is not a RINO.
