Video:Drunk Dallas PD gal shoots car floor w/ankle revolver.

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

I don't know personally, but I understand that before A/C became common in public service vehicles, there were some creative attempts to lower the temp in
the vehicle. Blocks of ice in the floorboard and a .38 may not have helped much, but it did get some attention.

I wonder if CarbonDioxide ice was commonly availabe in the 60s.

In the gray area of Law Enforcement there is this thing called "Officer's Discretion" -- while it is not something that should be abused, there is nothing that says becuase you break the law I have/must arrest you for that crime.... People get a pass EVERYDAY on everything from a Traffic Violation to a small amount of pot for personal use.

I spoke to a friend of mine, whose husband is a DPD Sergeant and knows the people involved. She said there is way more to this than we've been told. The only thing she was comfortable telling me was that the drunk LEO actually fired 5 shots, not just one.

Can you find out how she grouped the shots?

Let me begin my response with saying I think the intoxicated female was in the wrong - independent of what her profession was (key word there...). Now - I find it even more disturbing that she was an LEO because of the high expectations to which people hold law enforcement personnel. In my opinion an incident like this gets a disproportionate share of the media's attention, and leaves a bad taste in the public's mouth for LE as a whole. That sucks for us. Trust me - we get to deal with the repercussions of this fall out and how the general public relates to us.

Are you serious? What error in judgement did the on duty officers make in not killing the lady? You have no idea the bonds between officers especially ones that work together...I couldn't imagine having to draw a weapon at one of my partners because he or she armed themselves and may be a threat to me.

I think you can clearly hear the sense of urgency in the officers' voices when they are pleading with her to put the gun down. Everyone would be slow to kill their friend in self defense...regardless of what they do to pay the bills. While you are definitely entitled to feel they way that I quoted, your criticisms carry little weight as you've never been there and done their job.

Pretty high if you are in my city limits. We try and avoid making an arrest solely on the basis of public intoxication. It's easier to find someone a ride and does not compromise the subject's safety in doing so. And it's cheaper. I've cut people loose for worse.

Sounds great guys. I'll send them a pile of video and arrest records that I've stashed on CHL holders and petition to end the CHL program.

Or maybe a select few bad cases aren't indicative of the CHL population as a whole?

The attitudes represented by you two seem to be a stereotypical case of "look see what she did - all police are like that."

In regards to the errors in judgement that you disagree with, I'd say they did make a grievous error in judgement by not checking if the perp was disarmed. Cop or no cop, friend or no friend, I would think that was SOP. As I am sure you see, as a LEO, no one is in their right mind when they are intoxicated.

As for cops & 51%...well, I agree with Cobra and Harley. Why should LEO's be allowed to carry when they are on their own time, drinking excessively? Why should LEO's be above that law? Like I mentioned, no one is in their right mind when they are intoxicated. Why should a LEO get a free pass? Either enforce it for everyone, or repeal it for everyone. But taking the attitude of "You tell on me, I'll tell on you" is...well, suffice to say it isn't exactly the best attitude to take. I don't believe anyone is saying that all LEO's are like this. Heck, most normal citizens and CHLers are not like this...but they have to disarm.

I'm not bashing LEO's...just trying to understand your arguments...

Agree 100% - this however is not the question I asked - I asked about not shooting their partner and friend which was brought up. I'm also still unclear from the article whether she was arrested or getting taken home - that could've factored into their decision.

Is every off duty cop drinking excessively at a 51% location? My tit-for-tat comment was more sarcastic in nature to highlight the ridiculous idea that because one officer screwed up all cops can't handle the responsibility of carrying in a bar. It seems like more of a spoiled, jealous cry baby, plea than a reasonable and articulate argument. Many (probably a significant majority) departments (including mine) have policy restricting carry of a weapon AND/OR badge while consuming alcohol in a public place.

Instead of limiting the carry privileges enjoyed by LEOs why don't we work to get CHLs carry in bars?

:iagree:

I hope it's not considered "bashing" LEO to say they should be subject to the same rules as CHL when they're off duty.

If someone with a CHL is subject to restrictions that don't apply to off duty LEO, that's prima facie evidence those CHL restrictions are arbitrary and capricious. After all, if they made sense, they would also apply to off duty public servants.

In the wake of McDonald and Heller, I hope Texas will do the right thing during the 2011 session and make the same gun/carry laws apply to an off duty LEO and an off duty waitress with a CHL.

:iagree: , the question/subject of anyone drinking while carrying a gun is worn out as in :deadhorse: .

Why would any mature and resposonsible adult want to carry a gun when they're "going out drinking"? Why would that same person want to "go out drinking" IF they can do it safely in their dwelling?

BTW, "going out drinking" is not synonymous with having A beer or glass of wine with one's dinner.

Now that I've got that off my chest, I think I'll drink a jar of Tequilla, take my gun and drive my 4x4 hot rod truck real fast down to the Post Office and use the Federales' toilet.

Because alcohol is called liquid stupidity for a reason, Honestly if your going to drink then don't carry. LEO or CHl it is no different, wearing a badge does not make a person any less intoxicated.

I have many friends that are LEOs and I respect LEOs however they are not above the law yet there are times where they get treated that way. All citizens should be subject to the same laws.

They were just going to give her a ride home, just like any of us would do for a friend too drunk to drive. I believe this is the reason they did not check her for weapons. Oops! But, if I knew or thought my friend had a weapon I would get it from them and unload it.

However, as my friend told me, there is WAY more to this than has been released and the one shot that went through the floor of the car is not the only shot she fired.
