......the first time I got to present my CHL.
My GF and I were on our way out with some friends. We are about 2 blks from our destination and get pulled over for a headlight out.
I pull over, window down, dome light on, DL and CHL in hand. Ft Worth LEO asks for ID and Ins. Hands Ins back and runs my DL. Comes back, tells me to get it fixed and have a great day. I thank him and wish him a safe evening.
He was very polite and never asked if I was armed.
Round 2 on our way home......
Driving thru Westworth Village.....two LEOs in the median.....Lights come on and pull over.
I go thru the process......LEO asked if I was armed...I said yes...one in console and one in rear pocket....He informs me of my headlight...I told him I was pulled over earlier for it......He chuckled and went to run my info...comes back....wished me a safe night and I wish him the same.
Even at 2:30am he didnt ask if I had been drinking.....(even tho I wasnt)
Once again, very polite..........
Both GREAT stops

thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU, ledjedi,
All day yesterday while working on firewood for the winter, I was trying to remember what Cooper called the bad guys. I was trying to say Grimlins. I knew that was not right but could not pull it out of my memory.
goblins, Goblins, GOBLINS,
Got it now. Thanks, because I dont have to go hunt it.

And, for what it's worth, pay the extra for a pair of Sylvania Xtravisions, (WalMart carries them) and replace both of your bulbs. Then pop the functioning old one into one of the Xtravision packs and keep it around as a spare. Given that their runtimes are identical, when one headlight goes out, the other is usually pretty close to the end of its lifespan as well.

Same thing happened to my wife (pulled over twice in one night for a dead headlight). But in her case it was 1 block apart.

hey man, anytime I can help spread the gospel of Jeff Cooper I'm on it :) brilliant man and I still study his work.
I especially like his thinking along the lines of the bad guy. They are sub-human predators and don't deserve to be judged by the same standard as an honest hard working citizen imo..... aka goblins.

I am surprised Westworth Village let you go, they don't have the best reputation around these parts.

Both GREAT stops
These were very professionally handled on both sides. Kudos to all involved.
Do get the headlight fixed pronto, though. Besides safety, it's a matter of respect for both the law and the officers. If one of the same officers who stopped you sees you with the same light out in a couple of days, he's likely to take a dim (sorry!) view of it and you'll likely receive a souvenier.
The way LEO's look at it, good guys take the courteous advice, get the message, and get it fixed. Doing so also helps preserve the "presumed good guy" status of CHL holders for others.

Very much understood. Fortunatly I rarely go thru Westworth and It is even more rare that I go anywhere near the Stockyards so the chances of me seeing either of the same LEO at night (before I get it fixed) are almost nonexistent.
And yes....Westworth LEO does have a rather strong reputation of giving Driving Awards to the fullest extent. I suspect had I been speeding, I would have received a ticket. However, being just headlight and me informing the Officer that I had already been pulled over (and didnt just try to play dumb), I am not surprized I got away with a verbal warning.
I will say again that BOTH LEOs were very professional and very easy going.

Yes I should be there.....and if my headlight is out on my Harley, I WILL NOT ride it DAY or NIGHT. When I am on my bike, that is the one time i want EVERYONE looking at ME.....that way they SEE me.....and hopefully dont hit me.

Unless you were not armed, you are required to inform the officer that you have a handgun.
All but one of the times I've been pulled over since obtaining my CHL, the officer has asked immediately upon seeing my license. I've been disarmed once in the 7 years I've had my CHL, and that was recently. The DPS trooper said it was now "in their manuals" to run the serial number on any firearm they come into contact with. Can anyone confirm this?

That doesn't sound right and offends my sensibilities. I await confirmation.
