We were pulled over on I-10 about 9 pm near Sealy by a sheriff's deputy...turns out it was for a burned out license plate light. So, having read all the great stories here I was ready...dome light, window down, hands on wheel. When the deputy gets to the window I told him I have my license in my front pocket. He says OK, and I retrieve it and hand over my DL, insurance, and CHL together since I keep them all together in my wallet. He never says anything about the CHL or gun (yes it was on me), writes the warning, and we exchange "thank you"s. Here's another case where the officer seems to get it...no fuss over my CHL.

I love happy endings.

Just so I could ask if I could have a ride in it!!!

Now that we're off topic, thanks for the compliments. I have thought since the stop that the sheriff might have just wanted a close look at the car we were driving...a 2003 Mercury Marauder. It's big, fast, and intimidating...and in your rear view mirror looks like an under cover car. I've had people rapidly pull over when I've come up behind them.

I drive a '05 Crown Vic Police Interceptor (white, still has spot light and push bumper - I don't remove them because they're actually useful) that used to be in the Longview PD fleet... and I am always worried I'll get pulled over just because of what I drive. It's not my fault it was a great deal on a car and it's holding up perfectly!

I think that's a great car and a great deal. I'd like to have one...but I can justify another gun better than another car.

My son drove a 2003 P71 until last summer when he traded it in on his G8 GT. Those Crown Vics in the P71 package are great cars, and they are performance "sleepers." I was always surprised at how well my son's car cornered for such a big vehicle. The only problem with them is that you buy them used, generally after a police department has beat the bejabbers out of it. It's hard to find one in really clean condition that doesn't have a few rattles and squeaks in it. Also, as more and more departments go to the smaller cars, the P71s are going to eventually disappear. Too bad.

First of all, Happy to hear he let you off with a warning for the stop. I haven't been stopped since getting my CHL and plan/hope, although it may be wishful thinking, to keep it that way. I like hearing the good encounters with officers and it sounds like yours went as smooth as possible.

I got a warning because I had a burned out license plate light. I think the response from LE anytime anywhere for a burned out license plate light would either be a warning, or (worst case) a ticket that would be dropped by fixing the light and going by the station or court house to prove it. Anyone ever had anything different happen?

I got pulled over last month for speeding in Orange Grove, TX. 83 in a 70! State trooper asks me to get out of the car because there is not much of a shoulder on 281. I tell him I have a CHL and he asks if I have the gun on me. I say yes. He says just keep my hands where he can see them. He writes me a ticket. He made no fuss about me having a gun. That trip to Mexico cost me an extra $185. Oh well
