I was going a bit to fast on 2222, headed toward Mopac when a motorcycle cop lit me up.

There was no where to pull over, and it started to pour down hard. He pulls up beside me and tells me to roll down my window, he says there a gas station up ahead so i nod ok.

I pull in and he asks me to pull under the awning and i do. I hand him both ID's and he immediately hands back my CHL and says he'll be right back. I was surprised he didnt ask at all about it. Comes back and hands me my ticket.

Oh well, guess ill go pay my ticket.

Errrmmmm....please do excuse this ignorant North Texas born guy. What exactly is a "2222"? State highway, Farm to Market Road, etc?.....And Mopac to me means Missouri-Pacific railroad.....common in all of Texas...at least well know in the Dallas-Ft.Worth area. Here where I live there are about 100 or more Mopac crossings. Is that a street name?

I believe it is technically RM 2222.

And Mopac is a highway in Austin that was built along the MoPac railroad right of way. There is still an active track along the central median for part of the route of the highway. I believe it is also technically named Loop 1 and is a state highway.

2222 is/was one of the most impressive roads I ever drove on . Seems like it's gotten too congested now though.

I have seen very few RM-type signs in my time here, but I think Mr Rothstein is more correct than I was, and in fact it is indeed RM 2222.

I know this is only Wikipedia, but it will do for now.

It is a very fun road to drive.

RM 2222 or Koenig Lane or Route 69 or Allendale Road or Northland Drive (all names for the same stretch of road through Austin, depending on the part of town you are in...)

A portion of Loop 1 or MoPac was also FM 1325 until North Loop 1 became a tollway...

Most of the main roads here in Austin have 2 or 3 names...

Parmer Lane = FM 734

Lamar Street = Route 275

Research Blvd = HWY 183

Ben White Blvd = Route 71

When I moved here, I musta got lost a thousand times...

Isn't Ben White/71 also 290 west?

At one time (pre-1985) RR 2222 was a wonderfully un-congested road (2 lanes each way) winding road through the hill country out to 620.

There was very little housing at that time, only the occasional DPS or Sheriffs Dept patrol. It was a well known (and liked) road for sports car enthusiasts...but LEO (at that time) would pretty much ignore folks unless you were doing something completely stupid.

When I was in college (back in the dark ages), I had a '69 Jaguar XKE roadster. I drove many an enjoyable mile on "2222". From 1968 to 1985 Austin was a great place to live and grow up, but you couldn't drag me back there now.

When I was in high school the name of the road was Bull Creek Road even though it ended up at four points, 2222 came along later..........just like when Burnet Road turned into 183 and actually went to Burnet, now it goes to Round Rock.....progress I guess.
