Instructor's Course Ammo Restriction

#1

Post by BCGlocker »

I found the DPS approved ammo list provided below is a bit odd. I have never heard of some of the manufactures and other popular ammos are not allowed. Also, someone told me wadcutters are not allowed for revolver test, is this true?

"SPORTING ARMS AND AMMUNITION MANUFACTURERS’ INSTITUTE (S.A.A.M.I.) - APPROVED LIST

4W AMMUNITION; ASYM; ATLANTA ARMS; BLACK HILLS; BLOUNT, INC. C.C.I/SPEER;
FEDERAL CARTRIDGE CO./AMERICAN EAGLE; FIOCCHI OF AMERICA, INC.; HORNADY MFG. CO.; OLIN/WINCHESTER; PMC; REMINGTON ARMS CO./UMC

Revised 11/2015 Page 1"

S.A.A.M.I. yes. I never saw any restrictions on wadcutters, as long as they are S.A.A.M.I.

I certainly agree with SAMMI standards, but they specific named an approved ammo manufacture list. For example, Freedom Munition and many other fine manufactures are not on the list.

If you can show them the ammo is S.A.M.M.I. approved they should let you use it.

I shoot Freedom, Georgia Arms and others but much of their ammo is remanufactured. I remember when the state sent a list of approved ammo for use at the DPS range, but I also recall they said if I used ammo different from what was listed it must be SAAMI approved. They do check every shooters ammo.

I did not take a chance and made sure I had ammo that was on the list.
