Class Schedule

#1

Post by silentex »

Given that this is my first post, I apologize if this information is easily found somewhere on the forum. I've done a good number of searches, but I can't seem to find an answer for what I'm scratching my head over.

I know that DPS mandates class length to a minimum of 10 hours, but how exactly does that schedule work? Given the times listed by most instructors, I'm going to assume that lunch is eaten during the class. And, for those who are not holding their classes at the same site of the shooting range, do they count the drive time in the schedule?

I'm likely over thinking the whole scheduling of a class, but I've simply been curious.

Thanks in advance for clarifying . . . And thanks for all of the information on the site, it has been immensely helpful. :txflag:

8:00-6:00, teaching at the range. I teach through lunch.

If I teach a class at another location, travel time does not count.

Same for me. Teach while they eat. My range is 5 minutes. That is a a short break time.

9:00 to 7:00 here. Lunch in the classroom, while watching a DPS approved video. (They need a break from me for an hour!) 5 minute drive to the range is their afternoon break.

DPS also says an hour is 50 minutes of instruction with a 10 minute break. If you are worried about the time, just make sure you cover all the info, and trust me, the time will fill itself up!

:iagree:

That is the truth.

My range is 20 min to and from so we pick up lunch on the way back and they eat, I move on.

8:00-7:30ish

Y'all are an absolutely wonderful source of information. Thank you, again!

I assume the same goes for paper work? Just fit it in at the beginning of class? My memory of my class is rather skewed considering it was so long ago.

Most people are doing the online app now, so there is not much paperwork to fill out.

We do photos at break, and, now that we are fingerprinting again, one of us does fingerprints all day while the other one is teaching. (It does help to have a partner, or two, in this).

CHL-100's get printed while the students eat lunch and watch the video. Written test is right before the range, then they get their CHL-100 after they finish shooting.

Schedule is slightly different for winter. Since we shoot outdoors, in the winter it is dark before the end of the day. So, range time is at lunch, and we end up finishing a little later due to travel to the range, and shuffling of students.

Crossfire -- I think you should teach a class in acquiring an L-1 license/franchise. I'd attend! Another new venture for you! :coolgleamA:

I appreciate all of the help, guys! :cheers2:

Out of curiosity, what is the typical amount of time it takes for DPS to go through mail? I got my fingerprints done on Monday and mailed in the paperwork on Tuesday. I would assume they got the mail either Wednesday or Thursday, but the site still says they're pending the paperwork.
