Long Class vs. Short Class?

#1

Post by PracticalTactical »

I got all of my stuff sent in, and USPS tracking shows it all arrived and they have it, so hopefully I should be scheduled for a class soon. I'm already an NRA and NM CHL instructor, so I'll be eligible for the 28 hour class instead of the 36.

Do they offer the abbreviated course as often as the normal length one? Does anybody know what stuff they skip in the shorter one?

in the short class they skip the teaching methods and most anything that is in the NRA instructor certification class. in the class that I took DPS was working on a new format that would allow more short classes in the schedule but I am not sure if the new format made the cut or not.

I took the June class, it was combined long and short. For the short class folks, you get to go home at 5 PM while the long folks stay till 8. On Wed, we all showed back up at 8 to take the "verbal" test. It seemed to work out pretty well

The instructor indicated that they went to a combined format because it took so long to get enough folks for a short class that students were giving up and talking the long class just to get it done.

Wow, you stayed until 8 pm at night? We stayed until 5 in our long class. Was it still 4 classroom days and firing on Friday?

I wouldn't have minded that. Longer days but getting out a day early. Kind of hard on the butt, though!

We talked about those classes in my class a couple weeks later. I think it was determined that a class that long didn't really work out well. So I'd guess that it would work out to either be that the shorter classes are held at a different time instead of trying to combine the two into one class.
