Sales Tax Question
Do y'all collect sales tax for your CHL classes? Engaged in a minor debate as to whether or not we're exempt. Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Sales Tax Question
My instructor did not charge tax. Whether or not he paid taxes out of the money, idk.

Re: Sales Tax Question
CHL Instructors are performing a service.
Here is a list of taxable services in Texas... http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/t ... 6_259.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Doesn't look to me like educational services are listed.

Re: Sales Tax Question
Uuuhhh, guys, I know I'm new here, but may I offer a bit of advice about how you word your posts?
When you say that you don't pay taxes, I assume that you mean you don't send any sales tax to the state for your class fees. Right?
It could almost sound like you're saying that you don't pay ANY taxes (including federal income tax on what you make), and we all know that would be against the law.
I KNOW that's not what anyone here meant, but can you see where prying eyes might take it that way?
If anyone thinks that this suggestion is off base, please forgive me in advance.

Re: Sales Tax Question
The thread was talking specially about sales tax not federal income tax.Pistolero wrote:Uuuhhh, guys, I know I'm new here, but may I offer a bit of advice about how you word your posts?

Re: Sales Tax Question
I understood that, but the specific quote I was referencing said :loadedliberal wrote: The thread was talking specially about sales tax not federal income tax.
"I don't charge tax and I don't pay tax."
Maybe it's just me, but I'll bet there are some gun-unfriendly federal folks who watch sites like this, trying to pounce upon anything they can to make us all look bad. When someone says "I don't pay tax", I can see some fed taking that to mean ANY tax.
Just trying to be helpful, but I guess I'll forget about it.

Anyways I'm sure that the IRS would not be trolling the internet looking for tax evaders, they have better things to do with their time. However it is curious that so many forum member report having to go through extra screening at the airport.

Some people understand context. Some don't.

Re: Sales Tax Question
That's the point. The bad guys don't care about context. They are looking for a pretext to harm those of us who believe in the Second Amendment.
