New Katy Gun Store/range

#1

Post by howdy »

I went by the new Katy Gun store on Mason Road today and asked if they were going to allow outside CHL Instructors to use their range to do the shooting qual. They said they would allow me to use it and they had three classrooms to rent too. The gun store is open now and range will open in December. It is a beautiful facility and It will have 25 pistol lanes. I didn't inquire about the cost for the classroom (I don't need that), but the range is alot closer for me than Memorial Shooting Center.

I was waiting for the new store to open and was there on the first day. I bought a Kimber 1911 from them. I went back a week later with my adult son who wanted to trade in a couple low end hand guns for a down payment on a 1911 for himself. The guy I bought the Kimber from looked right though us and continued to talk to another employee while sitting on the counter. When we did find someone to ask about the trade in he told the appraiser who made a smart remark about the guns sight unseen. After 30 minutes he finally actually looked at the guns. There were more insults about the Walther and Bursa pistols and then he offered $75.00 for them. If they didn’t want the guns they could have just said so and that would have been fine even though I was a returning customer. Well that will not be a problem in the future because I won’t be back! The place was full of the local well healed gun crowd and they were clearly the only people the staff cared to serve so I wish them the best. Oh and there are plenty of “Gun Shop Bubbas” there.

Never ceases to amaze me how many gun store owners and gun store salesmen just don't "get" customer service. I have a feeling in a few years when the current gun craze, fad, bubble, or whatever you want to call it goes away eventually (and it will), they are going to be hurting.

The major gun shop/range down on my side of town has a couple of really great salesmen that I wait for when I want to buy something. They aslo have a couple of salesmen that have that "go 'way kid, ya bother me" kind of attitude. One in particular (owners son I think), is just as cold as can be.

Funny thing is, in this day and age, we don't HAVE to deal with them. Between online ammo sellers, gun sales, and auctions you just don't have to put up with it. Why pay higher prices for a more limited selection unless your getting service worth paying extra for.

Just by way of follow up on my customer dissatisfaction with Tactical Firearms new shop. My son took the two pistols back home with him to College Station and went to his regular gun shop. I believe it is called “Champions Firearms” and found the same gun he had wanted to deal on at Tactical for $60 less making it a good deal. What made it a great deal was Champion took the little Walther in trade and gave him $200 toward the 1911. For the same gun Tactical offered him $75! He’s happy and I don’t need to drive to Katy unless it is to see my Daughter. Oh wait there is another new shop at Fry Rd. and Westgreen… well I guess I do need to g :cheers2:

I had the same thing happen there. I contacted the owner after I walked out and got a strange reply from him. In the end I bought 2 hand guns XD SC, LCP from someone else. I was really hoping the new store would come with better service.
