Windy day for proficiency !
Well.......
Upsetting class day today. Wind picked up to twenty one miles an hour and wouldn't allow for the shooting proficiency of my class. Having to reschedule..

Cardboard targets instead of paper.
They cost a little more, but much less than the cost of rescheduling a range day.
And they hold up to both wind and rain.

So sorry to hear - how did the students handle it? The weather issue has really been on my mind now that we are in the spring/rainy season.

Re: Windy day for proficiency !
I switched to cardboard and it made all the difference. It seems every time we go qualify the wind picks up.
There would no complaints about rescheduling because of rain around here.

Well....my re-schedule went worse.
Winds were twice as high and have yet to get this group on the range. I did manage to order some cardboard B-27s and will be using them on my 3rd attempt.
Thanx for the input guys !

So thankful both of my classes used indoor ranges. I know that is not practical for everyone.

Cardboard makes a big difference. One other thing is to make sure you staple them with as long a length staples as possible and get them good and tight. If the location where they get stapled has a lot of previous staples left over you might either hammer then down or try to take a few minutes and pull the ones that are sticking out. When our cross boards get full of staples they don't hold targets as well as getting them stapled down solidly to the board.Neverpanic1 wrote:Well....my re-schedule went worse.

I use cardboard targets. After each use I glue paper targets onto the cardboard. I usually get 8 to 10 uses before they get weak. Works well and saves a little on the cost of cardboard alone.

I use T-posts and binder clips. I tape overlays so I can reuse the cardboard. (Had to switch to duct tape because I could not find masking tape that would hold. ) Actually clip the targets together, use 4 posts for 3 targets.

When one misses, and the round lands on someone else's target, do they get extra points for that?

We always have a high wind off Moses Lake on one side and Galveston Bay on the other, I tape the border and the staples hold and the edge's can't tear.

Steel T-Posts? Would these not allow a ricochet? Not criticizing, Just asking an honest question if there is a quick answer yes/no so as not to deflect the thread off topic...switch wrote:I use T-posts and binder clips.
