Took my NRA Pistol Instructor Course in June and sent application to DPS In early July. My status has NOT changed since late July where it shows all complete except background investigation and still shows that as under review.
Any idea what is wrong? I hold a current Texas CHL, a BATFE Type 03 FFL, and my job requires a DOD Top Secret clearance so unless they just have not updated, can't undertand why this is still showing under review. Don't want to bug the DPS office as I know they are short staffed and have a large load of renewals to take care of (thus only one new instructor course so far this year), but would really like to get into the next new instructor course they offer.
Thanks for any ideas,
AF-Odin

Re: Aspiring Instructor
Most likely nothing wrong. You just need to be patient. VERY patient. Right now they are primarily concerned about getting all the current instructors qualified in the next 30 days.

Be patient, they are back-logged.

Just a question have you attended a renewal instructor class since September once you have attended a class you will receive a your certificate in about 3 to 4 weeks after the class.

It will stay that way until AFTER you have attended the Instructor course at DPS.AF-Odin wrote:Took my NRA Pistol Instructor Course in June and sent application to DPS In early July. As for the "when am I gonna get to go" question, no one knows. I put my app/NRA credentials in during the last part of June, and am still waiting. An email to the lady that is in charge of the office, around the first of November, has gone unanswered.
Best guess is that we'll have to wait until at least after all the current crop of instructors renewals are finished and credentials issued (seems to take about a month from anectodal reports) and then the finish up on other things that require action by the CHL office at DPS, like the curriculum for the programs for teachers that CHL instructors may qualify to teach (DPS has yet to say anything about that program, or who will qualify for the training) and stuff like that.
Hopefully, us would-be instructors will get a chance to attend the DPS Instructor School sometime in the near future.

I doubt there will be any "new instructor" classes until they get all of the renewals done. Just a WAG.........next year? (But that's only 29 days away!) It took me 6 months to get into a class and that was when they were having a lot of new instructor classes.
