Yup, I am! I am staying at the Country Inns and Suites listed in your packet. DPS took out a block of rooms and available about 1/2 price.

Re: Anyone here scheduled for the Jan 2-6 Instructors Class?
Just got the email today that DPS had about 20 openings for the Jan 2-6 Instructors class and they were looking to fill those slots. They went in about an hour. I was one of he lucky ones that just happened to see the email come in and I jumped on it.
My plan is to commute since i live fairly close to Austin - Gotta keep expenses under control. The range quals are going to be at the DPS range in Florence. Is this the usual range that they use? Thought is was a at a different range for the last class this past Oct.
See you in January!!

Re: Anyone here scheduled for the Jan 2-6 Instructors Class?
I got the email this afternoon and jumped all over it, and got in. I was thrilled since my original class date was late May!
I Haven't booked a hotel yet, but was wondering whether there's a Motel 6 or Similar close by (I'm a cheapskate
)
Now I gotta go get some factory ammo. The 686 I'm planning to use hasn't had a round of factory fodder since I've owned it LOL.
Looking forward to going

I'm in....curious if there's a decent gouge about the shooting portion on this forum. My search logic probably wasn't the best, because I haven't found anything yet. The email I received about the shooting qualification got my attention.....I'll admit, I was a bit surprised to see that you had to get 5 shots off in 2 seconds with a revolver....better dust it off and get busy.

The shooting portion is EXACTLY the same as that done for the CHL license -- with the exception that you have to score 90% instead of 70%, and you have to do it with both revolver and semi-auto.Roccodawg wrote:I'm in....curious if there's a decent gouge about the shooting portion on this forum. There is no 5-shots in 2 seconds. You're seeing 5 shots in 2 seconds each (1 shot in 2 seconds, 5 times)
(I'm not sure what a "decent gouge" is, but that's the skinny!)
Range Rule: "The front gate lock is not an acceptable target."

Check with the hotels on the list you were sent from the DPS.... several of those offer SUBSTANTIAL DPS rates. I'm staying at Country Inns and Suites near where we are meeting, and it's about half off!

I think I also read somewhere that revolver shots have to be DA. Is that right?

No -- at least not when I took it. They try to convince you to do it that way, but it isn't specified one way or the other.Roccodawg wrote:I think I also read somewhere that revolver shots have to be DA. Is that right?

The letter sent by TXDPS giving instructions states: "No push off on single action will be accepted." Perhaps it means something else, but I took that to mean DOA. I was told by an instructor that they watch for SA fire. If someone in the know can clear this statement from the state up, please chime in.

That's a malfunction for a revolver where you can drop the hammer by pushing down on it without pulling the trigger. Has nothing to do with double action v.s. single actionwgoforth wrote:'sjfcontrol wrote:No -- at least not when I took it. (Good luck on getting any kind of "official" statement.)

Things may be different now but I shot it with a DAO SP101 and the guy next to me had a SA Blackhawk. Neither of us had any difficulty making accurate timed shots, although his reloads were a mite slow.
