Avatar 6kb
I havent logged on for a while and I noticed my avatar is missing. I tried to add a new one and it says it needs to be"Maximum dimensions; width: 80 pixels, height: 80 pixels, file size: 6.00 KiB.".
However, the forum rules state this: "16. Avatars area allowed but they are subject to all of the Forum Rules. If it wouldn't be allowed as a photo in a post, or if it sends a message that would violate forum rules, then it is not appropriate as an avatar. The default size limit is 80X80 and a maximum file size of 6144 kb. http://www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is one of numerous websites that allow you to create an avatar from an exiting photo."
I thought I had an avatar before, I don't remember what it might have been, but I know no reason it would have been removed and it looks like others have avatars greater than 6kb.. I tried resizing some simple pics and I couldn't get them below 6kb...\
Can someone explain?
Thanks

Re: Avatar 6kb
find your avatar you want, open it in Paint, change the properties to the 80x80, save as a JPEG and it should be 6kb or smaller.
You may need to scale it down, obviously.
If you need help, email me the photo you want at Rick at JennRick dot com and I will tweak it and send it back to you

Six kilobytes seems about right. You can view the image info for active avatars and see the file size. Mine is under 3KB.
When in doubt

The Avatar size requirement leaves little to be desired (pun fits)... member of several other gun forums with much less size restriction regards to avatars... a Texas forum w/tiny avatars just ain't right, IMO.

Allowing larger avatars is a tough sell, especially now that signatures are limited to four lines. You can put a link to a larger picture in your signature and hope people click on it, but I think it's a good idea to restrict avatars that take up a lot of screen space on mobile devices.

Re: Avatar 6kb
A tip for editing and resizing avatars in Photoshop. If you simply resize and save it, your file size may be larger than the 6kb max. Use File->Save for Web & Devices - this will give you options to strip profiles, remove metadata and select an appropriate file type and "quality" - it also gives you a real-time display of exactly how many bytes the saved file will be.
